Hancock passed over the river Mon day afternoon, March 13th, 1912, about 2:30 o'clock, at his home on the corner of 9th and Church street. Halifax County in December, 1874, and lived on the farm until 1SS6 when they moved to Scotland Neck and since that time have lived here. Mr. Hancock was converted in early life, being about 15 years of age, and when he moved to this sec tion he brought his membership to the Baptist church here. He loved h s God, his church and pastor. He wa3 an honest man correct and up right in all business relations. His motto being: "Owe no man any- rmng. To the bereaved and lonelv widow and to the sistei-3 and brothers of the deceased we point them to the God he served and put his trust and confidence. May all the bereaved family find comfort as only God can give it. The funeral was held from the Baptist church Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock, the services being con ducted by his pastor, Rev. O. L. Powers, assisted by Rev. N. C. Year by and Dr. Lloyd T. Wilson. The body was laid to rest in the Baptist cemetery. The following acted as pallbearers: Messrs G. W. Bryan, G. C. Weeks, J. L. Josey, B. F. Tillery, C. L. McDowell, B. S. Courtney. C. F. Burroughs and J. C. Hardy. KoanoRe River Freshet. There is the biggest freshet in the old Romoke River that has been seen since the big freshet of the 1877. Great damage has been done all along its banks. Every dam has been swept away.
