The school bond election on April 1st. We note that quite a lot of ferti lizer is being carried out of town by the farmers. "Tomkins' Hired Man" by home talent at the school auditorium Tues day evening, the 25th. The name of Miss Frances White should have appeared with the music class honor roll last week. The Four Bullocks gave a very pleasing entertainment at the opera house last Wednesday night. A bill has been introduced in the legislature by Mr. White providing for a cotton weigher in Scotland Neck. The spring time is coming and it does seem that it is high time some thing was being done towards clean ing up the town, and especially the back lets of the stores. Dr. W. R. Cullom,"of Wake Forest College, was here Sunday and preached at the Baptist church both the . morning and evening hours, preaching two very able sermons. Superintendent Dickens, with the chain gang, is building a very fine road to Palmyra. We never thought he could build such a road along these sand fulls, but it is being done. Mr. Willie H. Allsbrook is engaged in the writing of life and industrial insurance this year, representing the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., of New York. See his card in another column. A Box Parly. The Ladies Aid Circle number 4 of the Baptist Church gave a box party at Mrs. J. M. Bunch's Friday night March the 7th. Severalgirls attended, each bring ing a dainty box filled with con fectionaries. The boxes were put up and sold to the highest bidder. After the boxes were sold, a cake was put up and voted on for the prettiest girl present, and Mis Har lee Leggett received the most votes. Quite a number of young people were present, and everybody seemed to have a good time. The proceeds amounted to $25.00 Reduction in Cost. To paint the woodwork of a rocm one coat with L. & M. The Coming, Going and Whereabouts of Our People and 0!her Folks. Mr. ftilliam Gray. Mr. William Gray, who had been in bad health for several months, died at the home of his brother, Mr. Thomas F. Gray, onMain street, Wednesday afternoon of last week between five and six o'clock, and the body was token Thursday to the family home burying ground, sever al miles in the country, and interred, Rev. N. C. Yearby, pastor of the Methodist church, conducting the services. Mr. Gray was one of the town's oldest citizens, being a little mere than SO years of age. He is surviv ed by one brother, two sisters and several near relatives. He was a gallant Confederate soldier, and was engaged in many sharp battles dur ing the civil war. Mr. Robert Gray, of Rocky Mount, was here Sunday. Miss Annie Harrison is visiting relatives in Whitakers. Mrs. Albion Dunn, of Greenville, visited relatives here since our last issue. Mr. Alex Strickland has returned from a visit to relatives in Pitt county. Miss Will Andrews returned from a visit to Rocky Mount and Whita kers Sunday. Miss Brookie Allsbrook, of San ford, S. C, is here on a visit to rela tives and friends. Mr. Noah Biggs went to Richmond Monday to buy mules and horses for Biggs & Johnson. Mrs. Freda Heilbroner and. son, Leon, of New York,"are visiting Mr. and Mrs. G. Hoffman. Mr. J. W. Isanogle and little James Shepherd Bowers, of Wash- ton, N. C, were here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Perry and children, of Winston-Salem, are here on a visit to relatives and friends. Congressman Claude Kitchin was at home several days the past week visiting his family and attending to some legal business. Mr. C. W. Albertson went to Nor folk Monday to have his eye, that has been giving him trouble for several years, treated. Messrs. Henry Hil'.iard, Johnny Braxton, W. T. Pendleton, A. W. Futrell and Joe Batts spent Sunday in Tarboro. Misses Ruby Darden and Mary Pittman returned from Tarboro Monday, after a visit of several days to friends in that place. Mrs. J. P. Wimberley, of Rocky Mount, accompanied by her guest, Miss Nina Wells, of Richmond, Va., are here on a visit to relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Carter, of Durham, came last Thursday to visit friends. Mr. Carter returned home Monday leaving Mrs. Carter for a more extended visit. Mrs. J. II. - Randolph and Miss Mabel Vaughan, of House, and Mr. W.L.Vaughan, of Washington, N.C., were here Thursday to attend the burial of their uncle, Mr. William Gray. Mr. J. W. Austin is in Ashevilie this week attending a meeting of the Woodmen of the World. Eefore returning home he will yisit Mrs. Austin at Waxhaw, who is spending sometime there with her parents. Miss Nan Shields, of Scotland Neck, who is to be organ soloist in the sacred concert in the Baptist church tomorrow night, came in Friday evening and is the guest of Miss Lelia Higgs.
