Tillery, of Roanoke Rapids, by the Weeks Motor Car Co. This car at tracted a great deal of attention, especially on account of the sim plicity of its electric starter, and electric lighting system. Mr. Weeks tells us that he ha3 or ders in factory for four more Over land cars that he expects to arrive here in about two weeks, and that he has prospects of selling perhaps 10 or 12 more Overlands this spring. Blackwelder, of Ply mouth, has accepted a call to be come rector of Trinity church and expects to enter upon his work here about the first of June. The play, "Diamonds and Hearts," was not given last Friday night on account of the sickness of one of the player?, but will be give to night, Thursday. Harrison; Rocky Mount, 0. A. Snipes. The game of ball Tuesday after noon between Weldon and Scotland Neck, on the home diamond, re sulted in favor of the home boys by by the score of 16 to 5. Poor play ing was the features of the game. Capt. C. J. Phillips, a well-known citizen of Palmyra, died Thursday night of last week. Capt. Phillips had been sick for several weeks, but was able to be up the day before his death. We extend sympathy to the bereaved ones. The Wake Forest Glee Club and Orchestra gave a very pleasing en tertainment in the graded school auditorium Tuesday night. The at tendance was large and appreciative. The last meeting for this scholastic year of the Halifax County Teach ers' Association was held here Friday of last week. For some cause the attendance was rathe? small and this was very much regreted for the pro gram could have been carried out to better effect. The first hours of the morning session were devoted to demonstra tion work by pupils of the Scotland Neck graded school in their respect ive rooms. This work was very in teresting. After this grade work the teachers gathered in the audito rium where Dr. A. S. Harrison, county superintendent of schools, talked to the teachers about the county commencement to be held at Weldon on Friday, the 2nd day of May. At one o'clock the teachers and visitors were invited to lunch, pre pared by the good lady friends of the school, which was served in abundance and there was plenty to spare. After lunch the teachers again gathered in the auditorium and listened to some very helpful re marks by Prof. C. W. Wilson, of the Teacher's Training School at Green ville. Prof. Wilson talked on the relationship of the public schools to the various walk3 of life. He made it clear that the position of teacher carried with it an opportunity to do great good, and inspire the people to higher ideals of life. It is re gretted that no more of the teachers and citizens of our town were not present to hear Prof. Wilson. PERSONAL PARAGRAPHS. The Coming, Going and Whereabouts of Our People and Other Folks. Sheriff J. A. House was here on Tuesday. Mrs. Mittie Hassell left Tuesday to visit at Roper. Mr: Wrenn Butterworth and Mrs. McDowell are visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Butterworth. Mr. Harry Lee McDowell attend ed the Baraca-Philathea Convention in Charlotte the past week. Mrs. R. B. Hyatt returned to her home in Tarboro Friday after a visit to her sister, Mrs. R. H. Gray. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Alexander, of Chase City, Va., are visiting their son. Mr. J. Harper Alexander. Jr. Rev. J. E. Holden, of Ridgeway, was here Thursday night and Fri day of last week. His many friends were glad to see him. Mrs. C. W. Mitchell and Miss Mittie Ayers, of Aulander, were here Tuesday night to hear the Wake Forest Glee Club. Rev. N. C. Yearby, W. H. Newell and J. C. Hardy attended the meet ing of the Warrenton District Con ference at Williamston last week. Messrs. G. C. Weeks and Robert Josey went to Greensboro last week and brought back a Case automo bile for Mr. Josey. It is a hand some car. We still have a bit of winter weather, but the rain that fell Saturday will put the farmers to work again with a hustle as their hard land was nice ly softened. We are sorry to announce that the mail carrier on the star route from Heathsville to Enfield is very ill. But we hope he will soon recover Elder A. J. Moore, of -Whi takers, came up Saturday to fill his regular appointment at Rocky Swamp church, he was accompanied by bis son, Elder J. C. Moore. On April 10, 1913, the death angel entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Dickens, near Speed, and took rom them their darling baby, Min nie, bhe was born September 16. 1911, and died April 10, 1913, mak ing ner stay on earth one year, six months and twenty-four days. While her life was short she won the hearts of all who knew her. Little Minnie was sick only a few days, and while her life was de spaired of from the first, the end me a3 a shock to all. All that oving parents, kind friends and physicians could do was done for her, but God in His great wisdom had seen fit to take her home to Him; and I would say unto the be reaved parents weep not for your precious baby, for she is only asleep with Jesus, and we know that our oss is her eternal gain. A precious one from us has gone, A voice we loved is still, he place made vacant in our home Can never more be filled. The weather is very changeable for the time of year. The marriage bells rang out at Aurelian Springs Sunday when Miss Emma Light became the bride of Mr. Charlie Arrington. They were happily married at the Methodist parsonage by Elder Bradlej The heartiest congratulations of the community is extended the young young couple. Mr. W. T. Warren spent Saturday and Sunday with Mr. D. T. Cook at Aurelian Springs. Miss Lucy E. Warren spent Sat urday and Sunday with her aunt at the Springs. The home school at Mr. J. H.War ren's, taught by Miss Bessie Cook, of Aurelian Springs, will close Fri day, April 11th. She will be great ly missed in this community. Messrs. J. D. Shearin and J. E. Warren spent Sunday evening at the home of Mr. N. W. Warren, near Littleton. Mrs. N. W. Warren and little daughter, Urtie Boyd, and Mr. Nick Crawley, of Near Littleton, spent Sunday afternoon with Mrs. O.- B. Cook, of. Aurelian Springs. The snow this morning was a sur prise, although the warning was given last night when it turned so Lcold and clouded up. Little Ella's father was an emi nent author, and one day when he was at luncheon the little girl occu pied a chair in his study. Shortly a caller was uhsered in, and with a pleasant smile inquired: "I suppose you assist your father in entertaining bores?" "Yes, sir." replied Ella, gravely; "please be seated.
