Work on the re-drying plantsbeing erected. here bv'. the New Bern Tobacco Re-Drying Co.- si progressing rapidly and the contrac-j tors who have in charge the construe- tfon of the building, hope to have it ; completed very shortly. ; Visitors coming to New Bcrir f rom Beaufort and Morehead City ' declare , that the contractors who have in 4 charge the Work of erecting the big ( breakwater jat the Harbor of Refuge, Cape Lookout, have broken all pre- vious records during -the past four. mouths and, in consequence, the giant ! wall ot rock has reared llOCll XCLX water at above the surface of the many points. j , , - ?Early in the Spring the contractors gkve orders to their men to rush the work as much as possible during, the j warm weather in order that operc- tions could be slowed down, if neces-, sary during the colder days. ThisJ . was done and great progress maae. Senator F. M. Simmons, chairman of the Finance Committee of the United States Senate, will introduce Hon. ' Cameron Morrison, who is to make an address before the Democrats of j New Bern and Craven county at the Court House in this city tonight and ' this talk by the Senator is expected to be one of the features of the even-' irig. I New Bern Democrats have for weeks been awaiting the coming of Mr. Morrison. The event has been ( advertised far and near and it is be lieved that in addition to the nun-' dreds of local party members who will be on hand, there will also be a t large number from out of the city. Mr. Morrison's address will be along Democratic lines. He will tell of the( great work that the party has doqe j during tire past four years and will urge the Democrats here to cooperate" and to make victory in the November j election assured. It is more than probable that Mr. Morrison will return to Wilmington during October and address the . Dem ocrats of "this community. He prom ised Secretary C. C. 'Cash well, of the County Democratic Executive Com mittee, this morning that he would return here for anaddress in October. Mr. Cashwell had written Chairman Warren, of the State Democratic Com mittee, asking that Mr. Morrison be sent here, but was told that the pro gram had been arranged and could not be changed, but Mr. Morrison's promise to return was gladly received and what he will have to say will add that much strength to Democracy in this section. - CHASE FOR PENNANT NEARING THE END Chicago, 111..
