I dislike to appear in print, but a desire to "keep history straight" in duces me to overcome my disinclina tion. Your editorial of Friday comment ing on the support of the President by the New York Evening Post can not be considered a gain for his party, p.s that paper has supported the nominee of the Democratic party since 1884. In that year The Post bolted the nomination of Blaine and supported Cleveland with Harper's Weekly, the New York Times, Prov r ' idence Journal and the Springfield Republican, those papers being i known as Mugwump papers then, and since that time have become practi cally Democratic papers. The present owner of the JVew York Evening Post is Oswald Garrison Vil lard. the son of a native of Germany, who was a protege of the late Carl Schurz, and who became a Wall Street magnate. Another peculiar feature of the pol icy of this paper is that while the owner and editor is the son of a Ger man he is, in the present crisis in Europe pronounced pro-ally. T. E. WALLACE. (If the acquisition of The Post can not be considered a gain, why our Re publican brother's worry? If merely fo keep history straight, we fear he is ;n'ty of an error of omission in that he neglected, first, to state that The rest had been Independent in the resent campaign up to the time of i.,8 decision the past week, and, sec-J uuu, inai ine r ost supported the same Charles Evans Hughes, Repub lican, for governor of New York. while The Sun and other plutocratic S A F E Gr U A R D I N G Y O U R ESTATE d jjVLdua1, if fesPPln8iWe.and quaKnedenerally has exacting business of his own and finds it impossible to give necessary time and his best efforts to the numerous details of settling an estate Reason TWO why you should appoint as executor r 'papers, now supporting the Republi ' can, nominee, were" against Hughes. I The Post supported Hughes because it thought he was for the people; Tne Sun was against him per contra. Rarh. we suDDOse. found out its mis- take. No doubt' as Hughes welcomed the ardent support of The Post dur- ling the gubernatorial campaign he would welcome it during this presi- dential fiht. We assume that our J good friend overlooked the fact that ! The Post ardently supported Hughes for governor before Hughes had : same connection it might be asked if i ; The pogt .g tQ be pronounced pro- . AU .g nQt & confessioil in order that so is Roosevelt? At least The Bdst is for peace, while Roosevelt shouts for intervention in Belgium and seiz ure of . German ships in American ports. And does not the evidence (not theory) show that Theodore Roosevelt is nearer Charles Evans ( Hughes tnan tne New York Post is t Woodrow Wilson ? Editor The Dispatch.)
