GERMAN-AMERICAN CONVICTED. Paul Wierse Sentenced to Two Years In Federal Prison. Paul Wierse, who formerly lived lu re, being employed at the general offices of the Atlantic Coast Line, has been convicted of conspiracy to sinK the pteamer Liebenfels at Charleston, S. C, and sentenced to two years in prison and to pay a fine of $1,000. The same sentence was imposed on Captain Kattenhoff, co-conspirator. The trial took place in the United States Court at Aiken, S. C. The con vie ion is bajsed on the sinking of the German steamer in the-Charleston harbor shortly before the outbreak of l he war. Wierse is well known here, having worked in the Coast Line offices for five or six years. After leaving here he engaged in editing a German lan guage newspaper in Charleston, but more recently was on the editorial siaff of The Charleston American. SOLDIERS BUY BONDS. W. L. I.
