THE WAYS OF A MAID.
The ways of a maid with a man are
proverbially witching but as for,, the

'The Amazons," her latest Paramount

rameraman William Marshall have
featured the dainty star as hardiest

MARY PICKFORD.
an attraction extraordinary the
Grand theatre on next Monday and
Tuesday will present Mary Pickford
in a new Artcraft picture, "A Ro
mance of the Redwoods," staged un
der the personal direction of Cecil B.
De MiHe.
A Western subject of full-blooded,
dramatic action, the new Pickford ve
hicle, presents "Little Mary" in a role
that is entirely different from any
thing in which she has ever appear
ed on the screen. The story was
written by Mr. De Mille himself in
collaboration with Jennie Macpherson
and discloses a wealth of typical Pick
ford incidents of heart appeal. The
settings are of the days of '49 during
the time of the big gold rush. . Mary
Pickford, as Jenny Lawrence, "a little
New England miss, journeys to tho
West in search of her only relative,
an uncle. Before she is aware of it,
she falls in love and as a result, be
comes enmeshed in serious compli
cations. Various clever twists to th6
story afford surprises that add greatly
to the general merit of the picture.
"A Romance of the Redwoods" links
together the arts of two of the great
est notables in screenland, Mary Pick
ford and Cecil De Mille. The talents
of either one used in connection with
the production of a photoplay are
marvelous.
SPANISH CABINET
DISCUSSES SINKINGS
Madrid, Tuesday, Feb. 12. The
Italian ambassador to Spain called
upon the Marquis de Albucemas, the
Spanish Premier, late yesterday and
gave him all available information
which had been collected by Italy
regarding the torpedoing of the Ital
ian steamship Duca Di Genova. The
ambassador requested that he be
given whatever details' the Spanish
authorities have been able to collect
and was informed that the investiga
tion by the naval authorities at Val
encia had not yet been completed.
The Spanish cabinet met today to
tonsider the sinking of the Duca Di
Genova, and of the Spanish steam
ship Giralda. The case of the Gi
talda is considered one of the most
important matters the cabinet has
had to consider since the beginning
of the war.
A dispatch from Madrid on Febru
ary 9 said that the Italian steamship,
Duce Di Genova, of 7,893 tons, has
been torpedoed only a mile off Mur
viedro beach on the Spanish coast.
The Spanish steamship Giralda was
sunk on January 28-A protest against
the sinking was presented at ' Berlin
by the Spanish 4 government on Feb
ruary 8.
