The educational forces of the state will be enlisted in the campaign for improved public health and sanitation which the state council of defense will Inaugurate throughout South Carolina this sum mer as a war measure. Every possi ble agency will be employed in this work, far-reaching plans i"or fr'hich are being carefully laid at the nresent time, and as one of the first stens a letter has been addressed to the col lege presidents of the state, in which is asked that from each college fac slty a man or woman be chosen to ttend a conference to be called in the near future." Every college fac ulty is asked to furnish a volunteer worker for the period of the health campaign, and at ths conference all the forces that will engage in the en terprise are expected to partisipate. At the Grand theatre tomorrow and Saturday will be shown a film produc tion second in importance and timeli ness to no other seen this season. It is Mary Garden in "The Splendid Sin ner," by Kate Jordan. The powerful story depicts life as we see it today, and the locale ranges from New York and its environs to the battlefront of France. Miss Gar den is seen as a dominant figure in the smartest set of Bohemia and as a Red Cross nurse. A Dolore Fargis she is a woman who puts behind her the hectic, hollow life shehas led'for years, and, against the promptings of her better judgment marries Hugh Maxwell, a young physician, who is ignorant of her past. But her happi ness is short-lived, for the man who had- protected her appears without warning and urges her to renew their tie. Nor does disaster stop herej for her husband interrupts them and in a burst of fury and shattered hopes he leaves Dolores. They meet again, Dolores as a nurse in a French hospital captured by the enemy, her husband as a wounded soldier taken prisoner in a dash across the front. The old love surges on them and Dolores resolves to atone for the wrong done the man she worships. She enables him to escape, the precious documents stolen from the German officer next his heart.
