Perdue gives Bertie Relay $150K

its legacy of giving.
Last week, associates at the
Perdue Farms plant between
Kelford and Lewiston Wood
ville presented the American
Cancer Society with a check
for nearly $150,000 raised
by their 2018 Bertie County
Perdue Farms Relay For Life
team.
This comes as the Perdue
Farms Bertie County Relay
For Life team sweeps the
nationwide 2018 Relay For
Life awards in northeastern
North Carolina region.
The team won first place
in several categories, includ
ing funds raised per capita,
overall total raised and top
Team of Excellence.

Bertie NAACP honors veterans, officers
WINDSOR - On Oct. 13, the
Bertie County Branch of
NAACP held its inaugural
Veteran and Law Enforce
ment Banquet.
Seventeen Local World War
11 and Korean War Veterans
and current law enforcement
officers, some who have also
served in the Armed Forces,
were present.
The banquet was held at
Chief’s on The River in Wind
sor, and was conducted by
Bishop J.C. Watford as Mas
ter of Ceremony and the Rev.
Dr. Gary Cordon, who gave
the Invocation prayer.

of the honorees and the
honorees themselves were

Vidant Bertie Hospital hosted
its 2018 Pink Power Luncheon
last week at Cashie Convention
Center.
The event celebrates October
as Breast Cancer Awareness
Month as well as other cancers.
The event opened and event-
goers visited with local medi
cal groups and organizations
handed out information and
discussed the importance of
healthy living and preventative
medical visits.

Byrum welcomed the guests for
the packed event.
Byrum explained that the d^
cor was pink for breast cancer
and blue for colorectal cancer.
Those in attendances who are
currently battling cancer or are
cancer survivors were asked to
stand.
