Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which wai crucified: ho U risen; he is not here; behold the place where they hud him.'' Mark It:. An Enviable Record s STARTING in a humble way back in 1922, the Macon County Building and Loan Association has steadily grown in size and strength until it now can be justly proud of $91,909.68 m solvent assets. Speaking before the Franklin Rotary club Wed nesday, R. S. Jones, secretary- and treasurer of the association, stated that during the 12 years of its existence the association had made loans totaling $200,000, all in this county, and had never lost a penny on any loan. , .. The association lends money on a six per cent basis, to be repaid in weekly or monthly installments. Its earnings have averaged seven per cent, resulting in a reserve fund of $1,750, after the payment of dividends. w These figures are not astounding but to anyone accustomed to analysing financial statements they mean careful, capable management and financial sta bility. There are many building and loan associations in the state much larger than the -Macon" County group, but we doubt if any are more secure in their position. The association already has accomplished much in the development of this community. It can accom plish even more if the people of the town and county will give it greater support. It pays six per cent to stockholders and five and one-half per cent on sav ings, with ample security to insure safe investment. The beauty of the building and loan plan is that it not only keeps monev at-home but it keeps monev at work at home. Every dollar put into the Macon County Building and Loan helps indirectly to .increase employment, quicken trade and improve the lot of the entire community. We bring about sound prosperity than through the pur chase of building and loan stock. The building and loan can do more than any stabilize property values and inject new life into business. Fly Screens TYPICAL of the way in entering into the spirit Farm Program was the meeting held in the Lartooge chaye section last Saturday There was serious thought aplenty and everybody contributed something in the way of carefully studied ideas. I hen there was a wholesome program of amusement in which every one joined. Among the suggestions made by each of the group members were two of such vital importance that The Press takesjthe liberty of repeating them here. One was "screens for the kitchen porch" and the other, "running water in the home." The ideas behind these suggestions might have been called respectively, "guarding our children from disease," and, "man's duty to his wife." Knowledge of the menace to health of the common hoUse-fly is sufficiently' general to make further elaboration on this phase of the sub ject unnecessary. Keeping out the fly and bringing in running water are perhaps as essential to a healthy, comfortable home as having a broom and a cook-stove. Now, if every married asked, "What is the most lishing and maintaining a home," all except the deaf ones would answer, "A wife." Then, after admitting this, most of them will go home, sit down in the easy chair and let his precious, indispensable better half go down, the hill for a bucket of water at the spring or rasp her hands and strain her back drawing it from the well. 1 There are many ways to get running water in the home without buying-regular "systems". from a man ufacturer. There are unusual opportunities in this country to get it by gravity through pipe or trough. Ranis are well known for giving cheap and efficient service. Windmills, bought or homemade, may be resorted to in some cases. But whatever the means of getting it, whether the cost is in money or in genious labor, the reward will be well worth the effort. by Tin. f istikJiii Puss N 24 Number 12 n iTOK AND PUBLISHER .......... $1.50 .. $1.00 .75 .05 know of no better way to other agency just now to and Spigots y which Macon citizens are of the 5-10 Year Organized man in Macon county were important factor in estab MORE ABOUT FRANK1E SILVERS The FiaiikJin Pre:?, . Franklin, N. C, My Dear Sir: Since I am a reader of The Press I feel that I am justified in helping you correct any mistake that might ocrur in your paper. The last issue of The Press carried the poem by Frankie Silvers with the information that her daughter, Mrs. Parker, was buried at the Sugar Fork graveyard. The facts are Mrs. Parker was buried at the Mountain Grove cemetery and has a daughter visiting in this community at this time. On a separate sheet of paper is a poem (writer unknown) that you may print if you wish for the bene fit of those who seem to live in the past Wishing you a prosperous year, I am Respectfully yours, WALTER C. TAYLOR. There's nothing in a man that's perfect And nothing that's all complete He's nothing but a big beginning From his head to the sole of his feet. There's something that draws him npward, And something that drags him down, And the consequence is that he wobbles 'Twixt mock and a golden crown. And it's just the same with the nations . I want to recommend Mr. J. O. Harrison to the people of. Macon county, as I believe he knows more about the financial condition of bur county than anyone else and I believe he will do his best to help the common and poor man. .
