THOMAS HARBISON CELEBRATE GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY ' The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Zoellner was celebrated Sunday in the form of an annual reunion at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Richard J. Cobb. A beautiful color scheme of gold and white was carried out with . chrysanthemums, and in other ap pointments. At the end of a boun tiful three-course, dinner the white wedding cake, with yellow gold but tercups delicately arranged on its icing, was served. Those present, besides Mr. and Mrs. Zoellner and Mr. and Mrs. Cobb, were : Mr, and Mrs. W. W. Edwards, Mr. "and Mrs.v Carl, Zoellner and five children, of Highlands; Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Zoellner and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Harrison, of Frank lin, N. C. The guests included all of the living children of Mr. and Mrs, Zoellner, with the exception of a son, Willie Zoellner, Clayton, Ga., and a daughter, Mrs. Jennie Krieger, Atlanta, Ga., both of whom were unable to attend. ' . A tribute of silver, in lieu of inaccessible gold, was given by each of the children, and by many of the guests who called to pay their sespects during the after noon. A spirit of genial hospitality pervaded the entire , occasion. Margaret Schaeffer and Louis Zoellner were natives of Germany who came to America after their marriage in October, 1883. They came to Highlands more than for ty years ago from Ohio. Mr. Zo ellner, who had been a public school teacher before coming to this country, taught German and music for some years after coming to Highlands. He is a skilled viol inist, who with his class had the honor of playing before the Em peror, William . the First of Ger marry at the Royal Palace in Ber lin. The good citizenship and patrio tism of the Zoellners was shown in the three sons who served in France during the world war. HONOR ROLL ANNOUNCED Principal O. F. Summer, of the Highlands graded and high school, announced the October honor roll as follows: First grade: Lesslie Munger, Carmia Henren, Duane Wilson, Lewis Crunkleton, Harold Speed, Leon Potts, Naey-Potts, Dewey Elrod, Fred Rogers JSlrod, and Garence Crane. ' Sixth grade : ' Richard Zoellner. Seventh grade : Carolyn Potts. High school : j. W. Edwards. Wendell Geaveland, and ' Marion Day. evening, htc first and third Sun days of each month. AUXILIARY MEETS The Woman's Auxiliary . of the Church of the Incarnation (Epis copal) held its regular monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. J. C Lamb.last Thursday afternoon ft was decided at this meeting that the , Sunday school chilnren should meet at . the home of Mrs. J. A. Hines for classes each Sun day after November 1, rather than at the church. This decision was made after a discussion of the prob lem' of heating the church. CLEMSON GARDEN CLUB VISITS HIGHLANDS About thirty women, members of the Clemson College Garden club, were the week-end guests of "Mr. and Mrs. David Watson at the "House of David" Saturday and Sunday. T. G. Harbison made a brief talk to the club at noon Sat urday on the plant life in this section, and later accompanied the members of the club to loan's Garden, where there are many rare and beautiful plants and shrubs. The club was also taken to the grounds of W. W. Sulli van's home and shown native shrubs and trees there. Both of these places arc well known for their botanical exhibits, and served " as "atf excellent" illustration - of ; Mr. Harbison's, talk. Mr. Watson, who has had a summefhome- here foreveral years, is in charge of the grounds and ' planting at Clemson college. Misses Ethel Calloway, Sarah Hicks Hines and Eva Pott were among the. guests at a house party given over the past week-end by Jimmy Fort, Key West, Fia., at hjs cabin near Rabun Bald. And there was a stag party af Prof. Haroombe's (Clemson) at his home in the Mirror Lake section. Prof. W. E. Godfrey, Clemson, was also at his Mirror Lake cabin over the week-end with guests. Hallowe'en festivities started off gaily on Saturday night with a party given by Mrs. W. H. Rice in honor of Miss Bcrnice and a number of friends and. class mates. On Monday evening Kendall Pierson, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Pierson, was given a Hallowe'en birthday party at the Pierson home on east Main street (Lucky boy, he had two parties in one.) Miss Vivian Potts was hostess at a spooky party at her home on Tuesday evening. M rs, Clvde Harris,. October bride, was honored with a delight ful miscellaneous shower at the home of Mrs. Willie Husscasin Thursday afternoon. , Mrs. J. A. Hines and her son, Jim, spent several days at the Century of Progress exposition in Chicago the last of October. Mr. and Mrs. David Watson, T. G. Harbison, and a friend enjoyed a motor trip through the Smokies Sunday. ' Mr. and Mrs. Sidney McCarty, who have been visiting Mr. and Mrs; Bense Neely, left early this week for their home in Rahway, N. J. Mrs. M. H. Younir left for At lanta Monday after spending about five months at her home here. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Davis are at home again after having spent several days in Chicago visiting theCentuTy-of Progress exposition. Miss Myrtle Whitmire, of Rabun Gap, Ga.. was in Highlands Mon- day. ; , Tudor Hall and R. Smith went to. Hendersonville Tuesday. W. W. Sullivan, Anderson, S. C, was in. Highlands overthe week end. Clinton Burrel, of Clayton, Ga., was in Highlands Monday. " Another out-of-town visitor Mon day was John Byrne, of Franklin. Recent guests registered at the Central House include Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Patton, Miss Margaret Key, Miss Sara Caryn, and Miss Kittie Caryn, all of Chattanooga, Tenn. ; Mr.' and Mrs. W. C. Wead- on, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harris, of Atlanta; Mr. and Mrs. Furman Morris, Miss Mary Phillips, and Mrs. Aldeu Simpson, Greenville, S. C: and Mr. and Mrs. T. W. McCary of Streetman, Texas. Rainbow S Born to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Vaught, a son weighing 11 pounds, on Wednesday, October 25.. Mother and baby are doing very nicely. Mr. and Mrs. W.'G. Storie wee in Franklin shopping and for teach ers' meeting Saturday morning. J, P. Danielsori and son, Hubert, went to Franklin on business Sat urday. Jess Brooks was in Asheville on business last week-end. It has been reported that Mrs. Charles Crowder has been confined to her home the past week due to sickness, but she is much improved. A. W. Agee, who has been away on a few days business in the eastern part of .this state, returned to Rainbow Sjirjngk recently. Superintendent L. O. Bailey, who was called to Asheville on business a few days ago, has returned home. Mr. Bradshaw, our sawyer, spent a few days vacation visiting his family at Butler, Tenn., recently. A. T. Bateman, Jr., who has been confined to his. home for a few days on account of sickness, is able to be out on the street again. , Joe Swan, of Proctor, was among the business visitors here recently. Presi dential proclamation during the last fiscal year as the Saguaro Nation al Monument, to preserve foT pos terity a representative stand of desert flora, especially, the giant cactus. The number of national monuments under the supervision of the-Forest Service-is now 16. REBUILDING HOME C. F.
