All bids will be received subject to rejection or confirmation by the Clerk of said Superior Court and no bid will be accepted or reported unless its maker shall deposit with said Clerk at the close of the bid ding the sum of Fifty ($50.00) Dol lars, as a forfeit and guaranty of compliance with his bid, the same to be credited on his bid when ac cepted. Johnston from St. Agnes Church attended the district meet ing of the Woman's Auxiliary of the Episcopal Church at the Church of the Incarnation, Highlands, Tuesday. Phil S. Hoyt returned to Frank - ningham entertained at their home on Greene street Tuesday after noon, honoring Mrs. Dewey Dent, nee Miss Helen Shepherd, with a miscellaneous bridal shower. Shepherd, at her home on Harrison avenue. Mrs. J. A. Porter returned to her home here Thursday after spending several days with relatives and friends in Asheville. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Zachary, of Concord, and Mr. and Mrs. Van Sisk, of Charlotte, Were here last Thursday to attend the funeral of their grandmother, Mrs. Laura L. Sisk. Mrs. J. J. Moore has returned to her home here from Lawrenceville, where she has been teaching school the past winter. Calvin Orr, Victor Orr and Tom rosby, of Charlotte, and Misses Lola and Jessie Ramsey, who are attending Western Carolina Teach ers college, at luuowhee, were guests of Miss Nettie Hurst at 'Woodhurst Farm" the past week end. Mrs. A. E. Gouge has returned to her home at BakeYsville after spending several days with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Sisk. at their home on Iotla street. Mr. and Mrs. I. N. Conley, Fred Grant, Ray and Ralph Penland attended the ball game be tween the New York Giants and the Cleveland Indians in Asheville on Thursday of last week. McKinley Edwards, of' Brvson City, is here this week attending court. Mrs. Grady Burnett has returned from a visit with friends at Hcn dersonville. Mrs. N. C. Duncan, of West Asheville, has been spending the past week here visiting friends. Miss Merl Peek, who is attend ing Western Carolina Teachers' College, at Cullowhee. spent the week-end here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. T. Peek. She was accompanied by Miss Eloyse Hooper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. V. Hooper, of Sylva. Joe Kowal, culture foreman of Camp No. 12 at Buck Creek, has returned from a two-weeks visit with his mother in New York. William Warriner, culture fore man of Camp F-9, is back from a week's visit in Florida. Judge Felix E. Alley, of Waynes ville, was among the business visit ors here this week. A group of 22 people from the Macon Association attended the Western Regional B. Y. P. U. con vention at Marion on April 13 and 14. The party was composed of the Rev. E. R. Ellcr. Mr. and Mrs J. D. Franks, Misses Charlotte Conley, Thelma Welch, Helen Gras ty, Emma Hyatt, Marie Elders. Eloise Jamison, Gladys Panncll, Hazel Pannell, Helen Joines, Reul ah McCoy, Mrs. Granville Liles, Mrs. R. F. Henry, Mrs. Commo dore Tilley, Miss Ella Jones, Miss Ina Henry, Miss Rebecca Ray and Messrs Bill Cunningham, Henry Wilkie and Bo Henry. Mrs. R. M. Ledford is able to be up again, after having been con fined to her bed for several weeks on account of serious illness. Wolfe, of Asheville, spent Thursday and Friday of last week with us on business.
