A9-4tc-J&J-A30 Funeral Held for William Garland, 80 Funeral services for William Gar land, 80, were held at the Coweeta Baptist church Sunday afternoon, July .29, at 3.30 o'clock with the Rev. John L. Teague officiating. Mr. Garland died at his home on Tesenta Saturday night, July 27, after a lingering illness. He was a member of the Coweeta Baptist church. t Surviving the deceased are his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Will Ledbetter, and one son, Dock Gar land, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Singing Convention To Be Held at lotla Church The northern division of the Ma con county singing convention will hold a two-day singing at the lotla Baptist church on Saturday and Sunday, August 11 and 12, accord ing to an announcement by Thom as Carter, president of the group. The convention is scheduled to get under way at 10 a. m. Satur day. Mr. Carter urged each church in the district to send a good sing ing class to the convention. All-Day Singing To Be Held August 25 An all-day singing convention is scheduled to be held on August 25 at the High Tower school on High Lonesome mountain just across the county border in Swain cunty ac cording to an announcement giv en The Press-Maconian. This sing ing convention previously has been held on the roadside on High Lone some, but arrangements were made this year for use of the school building. Cartoogechaye (Unavoidably Omitted Last Week) Charles Battles, of Virginia, is visiting relatives and friends of this section. Charles Southard is reported very ill. We wish him a speedy re covery. Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Hasting land son, Glenn; Mrs. Ed Battles, Charlie Battles, Mrs. George Wake field and son, and Mrs. Casper spent last Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Lester Southard on Franklin Route 2. Frank Southard has recently tak- 1 en a contract to haul wood at Rainbow Springs. Several of the people of this community enjoyed a mutton roast at Black Gap last week-end. Albert Enloe, of Akron, Ohio, spent two weeks with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Enloe. Mr. and Mrs. Grady Waldroop were in Franklin shopping Satur day. Miss Blanche Southard is spend ing several weeks with her broth ers an Franklin Route 2. Mr. and Mrs. Hoochie Burch have gone to Georgia to make thejr nome Misses Iona Waldroop and Ruby Southard were in Franklin Satur day. Miss Shirley Roane spent the past week in Murphy visiting rel atives. Mark Cochran and son, Weaver; m Wilson, and Soggie Shules. of Briartown, were in this section Sunday en route to Franklin. Bob Edwards, of Bumingtown, has moved his saw mill to this section and now has it in operation. Miss Susan McClur of Frank lin, was the week-end guest of Misses Lola and Jessie Ramsey. Messers Clarence Jones, of Fair view, N. C, and his brother, Ernest Jones, of Canton, were visiting Mr. and Mrs. V. C. DeHart Sun day. Misses Lola and Jessie Ramsey, Ruth and Nell Byrd went to Frank lin Thursday to attend a teachers' meeting. J. L. Smith, of this section, who has been sick for some 'time, is improving rapidly.
