The hostesses served dainty refreshments. PARKER-JACOBS Anouncements were received in Franklin the past week of the mar riage of Miss Dorothy Mae Parker, daughter of Mn. and Mrs. James Parker, of Mt. Airy, N. C, to Mr. I J. D. Jacobs, son of Mrs. David A. Jacobs, of Franklin, on June 10, 1934, at Hillville, Va. Mr. Jacobs has been employed at Mt. Airy for the past year. Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs are now living at 125 Granite St., Mt. Airy, N. C. MRS. LUTHER SANDERS HONORED AT SHOWER A miscelleanous shower was giv en at the home of "Mrs. Alfred Wil liams at her home on Cartooge chaye on Friday, August 10, honor ing Mrs. Luthe Sanders, a recent bride. Mrs. Sanders received many love ly and useful gifts. . The hostess served delicious cake and lemonade. CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY Mrs. A. R. Todd entertained in honor of her daughter, Mary Rose, who celebrated her seventh birth day anniversary Friday, at her home on Iotla street. Twenty-eight chil dren were present. Various games were played and pri.cs given. Bright colored bal loons were the favori. Mrs. Todd served delicious cake, ice cream and candy. SHOOK-ESTES Miss Edna Shook, daughter of Mrs. Bessie Shook, of Gneiss, and Wiley Estes, son of Mrs. l izzie Fstes, of Cullasaja, were quietly married in the courthouse on Thurs- Hoyt Ledford and Norman Blaine went to Asheville Monday night to see the Quarles-Genaro boxing bout. Prof, and Mrs. W. B. Kesler an young son, of East Spencer, ar spending this week here visiting Mrs. Kesler's parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Angel, Sr. Jule S. Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Morrison and children, of Winston-Salem, came Sunday for a week's visit with Mr. Morrison's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Morrison, at West's Mill. Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Bryson and four children returned to their home in Darrington, Wash., Mon day, after spending a month here visiting Mr. Bryson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Bryson, at West's Mill. "Top" Dalton, who underwent an operation at Angel hospital Monday was reported to be resting comfort ably Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Moody, of Murphy, are here this week attend ing court. They are stopping at the Peek hotel while in town. Doc Byrd, of Bryson City, was here the first of this week visiting his sister, Mrs. T. M. Hoilman. J. D. Harley Baldwin and family have moved from the Fulton Brothers house on Bonny Crest, to one of Boice Munday's houses on Harrison avenue. Vance Browning, of Bryson City, who is running for senator in the 33rd State senatorial district, was among the business visitors here Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Franklin, of Mozeley on Bonny Crest, spent the week-end in Atlanta, Ga. McKinley Edwards, of Bryson City, spent several days here at tending court. Mr. and Mrs. Graham Grindstaff, of Keene, N. H., arrived here Monday for a visit with relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hall and young son, of Sylva, are spending several days here with Mrs. Hall's father, W. G. Hall, at his home on Bonny Crest arid her grand mother, Mrs. Sally Penland, at her home on Palmer street. Newton L. Cunningham arrived here Monday night from Akron, 0., for a visit with his wife, who is-here visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Miss Ruth Hightower, who has been visiting Miss Jarvis Ledford, at her home on Iotla street for the past two weeks, returned to her home in Union, S. C, last week. Solesbee, assisted by the Rev. J. N. Benson, a ministerial student of Mars Hill and who has been spending several weeks here, Historical Data Sought For Museum by Mrs. Siler Well organized efforts are under way for the establishment of a museum in the Smoky Mountain National Park. Western North Carolina countie are each represented by one or more persons on the various com- imittees of the museum organiza tion. Dean Bird of Western Carolina Teachers college, Cullowhee, is general chairman ; G. W. McCoy, of Asheville, is general secretary. Mrs. F. L. Siler, of Franklin, represents Macon county and has been placed on both the historical and arts and crafts committees. The general secretary has re quested Mrs. Siler to furnish a copy of the Siler family record for the historical committee. She is also to write an article on Jesse Siler, for whom Siler's Bald in the Smokies is named. For the arts and crafts depart ment, Mrs. Siler is anxious to col lect any handmade household uten sils or pieces of early handmade furniture. Any relic of any kind of the Cherokee Indians also wjfll be gladly accepted. For the historical committee old letters, books, or written notes of North Carolina are requested to get in touch with her, as she is anxious to obtain all available information relating to the history of this sec tion.
