Holler, vice president and general sales manager of Chevrolet Motor Co., announced that on June 12, the company’s sales this year had surpassed 528,964 units, a figure that has stood sinci 1928 as the company’s all-time recoM for the entire first h'alf of any year. By the end of June, said Mr., Holler, 1936 sales will have exceeded any previous record for the first six months by approximately 80,(XX) units. Sales in the first half of last year were 436,669, a total that was passed this year before May 10. This figure will be exceeded by 50 per cent, it is estimated, during the same period this year. For the two months the total is about 30 per cent of the normal rainfall for the Franklin area. This station was established Jan. 1, 1934. The rec ords available do not cover a long enough period to enable us to esti mate an approximately correct av'i'r- age for these months. Mr, and Mrs, Clyde Tippett are spending some time with relatives in Asheville, J, K,'Downs, of Canton, was here on business Saturday, STEAL CORNERSTONE Marumsco, Dd,—While its Negro congregation worshipped inside, thieves stole the cornerstone from the church—the Ebenezer Aletho- dist church. Evidently the culprits believed that money or other valu ables had been placed m the corn erstone. R. S. Fox of Mars Hill, .Madison County, 'traded a cow and lumber for a registered Hampshire ram and six ewes. He has 20 ewes on the place now and raised 20 lambs this spring. A STRANGE EVENT Stockton, Afd.—The snake which robbed a setting hen's nest of fif teen guinea eggs was caught by Mrs. Sadie Moore and others. It was killed, the eggs recovered, plac ed under a setting hen again and all fifteen eggs hatched. Well—Which' Is It? We had some good speaking by our county superintendent, M. D. Billings, and Dr. Hunter, president of Western Carolina Teachers Col lege, Ctillowhee. Mrs. Della Day, our supervisor, also gave an interesting talk. String music was enjoyed jn the afternoon, I^ts of good food was spread, in the grove and didn’t stay spread long until it was eaten. We were delighted to have Dr. and Mrs. Hunter with us and apjireciat- ■ed their interest. PRAYING FOR RAIN Everybody is praying for rain, which we hope will soon come. Jim Patton, who is working in Georgia, spent the week-end with his father, R. A. Patton. Mrs. Anne Patton, who has been ill, is better at this writing, we are glad to say.
