THROUGHOUT the centuries of agricultural development and industrial en
terprise, progress towards civilization has been possible only through the
combined efforts of workingmen. Cities, roads, ships-all have been fashioned
by their hands. The luxuries of life and the necessities of industry have been
products of constructive labor. 1 -
Yet, it has taken all these years for us to assign Labor to its proper place in
society. Only recently have we realized that Labor is one of the bases of civil
' ized lif e. '' " '
We realize, too, that the future of every society depends upon the condition of
Labor obtaining in that society. A happy, satisfied labor-group-enjoying a
high standard of living-that is the formula for the happiness of everyone.
This, then, is America's Coming of Age. We appreciate Labor's worth to our
welfare, and hasten to foster its growth.
