J. Edwards, 70, min ister; of the Murphy Methodist circuit, died almost instantly in the yard of his home, seven mies south of Murphy, Thursday morn ing, .'December .9, at- 8 o'clock . when he slipped on ice and fell. The minister, who was widely known, was on hi way to the well for a bucket of water at the time. His skull was crushed ' when his head struck . a rock' as- he- fell. Mr. Edwards went to Cherokee county from Franklin a month ago. He;feerved the Franklin circuit for , the past year. Born in Virginia, he resjded in Haywood ' county the greater part of his life. Surviving are ", his . widow; two daughters, Mrs. Ivor Vance, of Plumtree, and Mrs. B. L. Hayes, of ; Franklin ; one son, 4- Tevi- of Mars Hill, and two sisters,- Mrs. T. ' P. Evans, of Wilmington, Va., and Mrs. Lloyd McGee, of Enoree, S. C. . ' ' .. The funeral services were held at Troutmans, in Iredell county. Friday afternoon, December 10, at 3 o'clock. The Rev. W. A. Rollins, presiding elder of the Waynesville Methodist district, officiated, assist ed by th Rev, W. A. Newell, of . Morganton, the Rev, John Hoyle, Jrl of btatesville, and the Kev. J. W. There will be 241 camps in the corps area compared with the 260 operated during November. The reduction is part of a na tional program outlined ) at the Washington -headquarters for the CCC, affecting all personnel. Camp F-20, located at West's Mill in Macon county, is one of the camps affected by the re duction order, and is being closed. The boys are being sent to nearby camps in North and South Caro lina. The camp at West's i Mill has been a distinct advantage to that section as well as to Franklin, and the officers and men have been well behaved and popular. lhe closing of the camp is very much regretted by our people, i MACON COURT TERM CLOSES Civil Calendar Completed Wednesday; Only Two Important Cases The December term of Macon superior court adjourned Wednes day afternoon after having dispos ed of the civil calendar. There were a number of routine matters cleared up arid two un contested divorce cases were heard and verdicts rendered, but only two suits of importance were tried. The case of John H. Thomas and wife against the Nantahala Power & Light company, which was No. l 'on the calendar, result ed in a verdict for the plaintiff for $3,125. Case No. 2, H. W. Green, Walter Gibson and Roger S. Warner or the use of Charles C. West and Herman Dean, versus G. A. Jones, K. S. Jones, Jim Gray, Jess Conley and Philip S. Hoyt, was noh-suited . by order of the court. In the case of Louise Blaine, by htrguafdran: Norman Blaine. : against the estate of Dr. S. H. Lyle, for damages, a verdict was given for the plaintiff in the amount of $3,5Q0i MRS. TALLEY, 75, DIES SATURDAY Aged Woman Passes At UAM. At C At Holly Springs Mrs. Margaret Kell Talley, 75, died at the home of her son, Will Talley, Saturday morning at 5 o'clock from a heart attack which followed a three weeks' illness. Mrs. Talley, who was born and raised in Clayton, Ga., had lived in Macon county for a number of years. She ' was a member of the Holly Springs Baptist church. Funeral services were held at the home of Will Talley in the Holly Springs section Sunday aft ernoon at 2:30. Rev. Oscar Nix, a Baptist minister of Rabun county, Ga., was in charge of the services. Interment was in the Holly Springs cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons. Char lie and Howard Johnson, Arthur, Homer and Garnell Miller and. Gordon Talley. " Mrs. Talley is survived by her husband, John Talley; two daugh ters, Mrs. Luther Johnson, and Mrs. Lem Miller, of Highlands, and four sons, Will Talley, of the Holly Springs section,, and Lenn, Jabe and Jim Talley, all of High lands. ' Christmas Eve Service At St. Agnes The annual Christmas Eve ser vices will be held in St. Agnes' church on Friday, December 24, beginning at 11 p. m. This year there will be a half hour devoted to the singing of Christmas carols and songs, during which there will be some solos by members of the church. -As usual, the service will be held by candle light and the fully choral communion service will follow the singing of the arols. The community is ' cordially invited to attend this service. A full program will appear in next week's issue of the Press. Dance Postponed To Saturday Night On account of the American Legion box supper at the court house Friday night, the dance sponsored by the P.-T. A. for the benefit of the school lunch room. has been postponed until Saturday night, December 18, and will be held in the Odd Fellows hall over Leach Brfis. hardware store. Schools to Close For Christmas It is announced that the Frank lin schools will close Saturday for the Christmas holidays. Classes will be taught Saturday to make up for time lost Thanksgiving.
