McGuire Weds Eugene Charles Bullock In Beautiful Home Ceremony Miss Virginia Alexander McGuire ajid Eugene Charles Bullock, of Hamlet, were married Saturday njiiing al 11 o'clock in a ceremony characterized by beauty and sim plicity, at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs.. W. B. McGuire,1 in Franklin. The officiating clergy man was the Rev. J. A. Flanagan, pastor of the Franklin Presbyter ian church. The vows were spoken before an improvised altar banked with green ery and flanked oh either side with shower bouquets of white flowers. The wedding music was played by Mrs. Bern W. Woodruff, who play ed .before the ceremony "Etude" by Chopin, "Romance" by Rubin . stin, "Clair de Lune" by Debussy, and "To a Wild Rose" by, Mc Dowell. Ben W. Woodruff, ac companied by Mrs. Woodruff, sang "When We're Together" by 'Emer son James and "Calm as the Night" by Carl Bohm. ' The traditional bridal chorus from Lohengrin was used for the proces sional. "Liebestraum" by Liszt was , played softly during the ceremony. The bride descended the stair way, which was decorated in green ery and white flowers, with her brother, William B. McGuire, of Charlotte, by whom she was given in marriage. They were met at the altar by the( bridegroom, attended by his best man, Ernest T. Hugue- let, of .Hamlet. , -The bride's gown was of white, taffeta with a semi-train and long sleeves, shirred from the shoulder to the elbow. Her long veil was of white tulle. Her only ornament was a sunburst pin of diamonds and pearls, belonging to her mother, which she wore at her wedding. jficr uouquci was 01 cana limes. Twin Slater Is Attendant I f it i-n:- Mrs. John Warner Cooper, of Cleveland, Tenn., twin sister of the bride, was matron of honor. She wore. a gown of pale green taffeta, with a full skirt and cap sleeves. She wore a shoulder length veil of green tulle, held in place by a wreath . of yellow daisies, and car ried a bouquet of white . larkspur, gysopbila and yellow daisies. . Immediately following the cere mony a luncheon was given for the wedding party and guests on the lawi at the home of the bride's mother. The bridal table was covered with a beautiful lace cloth and centered with the wedding cake. The '. table was decorated with star jessamine and gysophila. . Those assisting were Mrs. W. W. Sloan, Mrs. T. J. Johnston, Mrs. George M. Slagle, Miss Margaret Cozad and Miss Ruth Slagle, of Franklin; Miss Margaret Plonk, of Macon, Ga., a niece of the bride; Mrs.. John Bulgin and Mrs. George Bulgin, of Franklin, cousins of the bride. Mrs. McGuire, mother of the bride, was attired in a gown of powder blue crepe with a corsage of pink roses. Mrs. Bullock, mother of the bride groom, wore a gown of black, lace. Her flowers were pink rosebuds. Mr. and Mrs. Bullock left imme diately after the luncheon for a trip by motor through the Shenan doah Valley. The bride donned for traveling a gown of navy blue with dusty rose. . Her accessories were all of navy blue and she wore a shoulder corsage of gardenias, Graduate Of Woman's College . Mrs. Bullock is .a daughter of Mrs. W. B. McGuire and the late Mr. McGuire, of Franklin. She is a graduate of the Franklin high school and of the Woman's College lina. She' has held the position of laboratory technician in the Angel hospital in Franklin and ; in the Hamlet hospital, Hamlet. Mr. Bullock is the son of Mrs. Charles Bullock, of Hamlet, and is a well-known young business man of that city. i; : . . After July 5, Mr. and Mrs. Bul lock will reside in Hamlet. Mrs. Hugh Leach entertained at a wedding breakfast at The Tavern Willis, Miss Margaret Fulton, Miss Janet Griffin, Miss Katherine Capps, Miss Nancy Darbee, Miss Margaret Frariks, Miss Elizabeth Sloop, Miss Elizabeth McGuire, Miss Margaret Slagle, Mrs. W. B. Kesler, Miss Tillie Geiger, and Miss Leeida Be shears. Woodruff, and E. T. Hugue let. PALMER-STEWART Mr. and Mrs. James A. Palmer, of Franklin, announce the marriage of their daughter, Miss Marie Love Palmer, to Daniel Alexander Stew art, of Franklin. The wedding was solemnized on Sunday evening, June 19, at 7:30 o'clock in Clarkesville, Ga. The Rev. John A. Simpson, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiated. The wedding ceremony was per formed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Hoyt, in the presence of a small assemblage of friends. The bride was dressed in a navy blue figured crepe with accessories of navy. Her flowers were a bou quet of pink roses and lilies-of-the valley. Mrs. Stewart, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Palmer, is a graduate of the Franklin high school and of the Woman s College of the Univer sity of North Carolina, at Greens boro, in the class of 1936. Since then she has taught school in Rob- binsville, and in the Franklin high school. Mr. Stewart is the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. G. Stewart, of Frank lin. He attended the Franklin high school, and at present is employed by the state highway department, located at Cashiers. Immediately following the cere mony Mr. and Mrs. Stewart left for a wedding trip to Atlanta and other points in Georgia, after which they will return to Cashiers. They will reside there until September 1, when Mrs. Stewart will return to Franklin to assume her duties as English teacher in the Franklin high school. GIBSON-W YKLE Miss Vicie Gibson and Oscar Wykle were quietly married in Clayton, Ga., on Saturday, June 18, at 2 o'clock. The simple but im pressive ceremony was performed by t rank Smith, ordinary,! in the presence of a few relatives and close friends. Miss Tiny Gibson, a sister of the bride, was her only attendant, while Oscar Green, a cousin of the groom, was his only attendant. Mrs. Wykle, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Noah Gibson, of franklin Route 4. She was dressed in a white silk crepe dress with white accessories. She attended the Franklin high school. Mr. Wykle is a prosperous young tarmer ot the Cowee community and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Wykle. Mr. and Mrs. Wykle are now making their home with the groom's parents. SUPRISE PARTY HONORS MISS CAROLYN NOLEN Mrs. Hayes E. Overcash and Miss Ruth Slagle were joint hostesses at a suprise birthday party honor ing Miss Carolyn Nolen on Tues day evening. The Overcash apartment was at tractively decorated with summer flowers. Games were enjoyed dur ing the evening and delicious re freshments, consisting 6f cantaloupe a la mode and candies were served. The honored guest was presented a lovely China pitcher of unique pattern. Those invited were,: Misses Amy Harrison, Margaret Cozad, Helen Patton, Katherine Porter, Eliza beth and Virginia Slagle, Rosalind Bulgin and Mrs. H. A, Wilhide. . Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Johnson, Miss Mary Wiley Johnson, Mrs. Gladyce Spencer and Mrs. Anna Cameron, of Orlando, Fla., are spending the summer at the Klock Lodge on the Cowee estate. 'Top" Dalton accompanied by C. J. Murphy, a prominent business man of uastonia, spent the week end at West's Mill, with Mr. Dal- ton's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John fl. Dalton, returning to their home Sunday. Perry Matlock, of Marietta, Ga., is spending this week visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Mat lock, at their home at West's Mill. Phiil Blumenthal, who has been attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is here to spend a while with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Moses Blumenthal. Captain and Mrs. George A. Mc Bride and daughter, Miss Marjorie McBride, and son, Sam, of New Orleans, La., arrived Sunday to spend the summer months at their home on Wayah street. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Holt and daughter, Martha, went to Andrews Monday for a visit with Mrs. Holt's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Strib ling. On their return they were ac companied by their son, Harry, Jr., who had been in Andrews visiting arid by .little Jacqueline Ellard, who will spend several days in Highlands with her aunt, Mrs.. Holt. Hall Swain, of Greenville, S. C, is here for a visit with his wife and daughter, at the home of Mrs. W. W. Sloan, in East Franklin. Mrs. Ellen Smith and three daughters, of Winter Haven, Fla., are spending the summer here. They have taken an apartment in the A. R. Higdon house on the Georgia road. Miss Alvah Dalton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Dalton, of West's Mill, is taking training in the city hospital in Gastoma. A. W. Reid has returned to his home, after spending a week in Cincinnati, Ohio, on business. Mrs. Wayne Couch and sinal daughter, of Miami, Fla., are vis king Mrs. Couch's sister, Mrs George R. Pattillo and Mr. Pattillo at their home on Franklin Route 4, Robert Gaines has returned to the Scott Griffin hotel where he has employment, after spending the week-end in Sanford visiting his mother, Mrs. Edith Gaines. Ora Matlock came up from Mar letta, Ga., Monday for a short visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs, J. B. Matlock at their home at West's Mill. D. J. Moses, who has been male ing his home at Cullowhee for sev eral months, has moved back to his old home place on Ellijay. Miss Annie Slagle has returned to her home on Cartoogechaye, after spending a week in Concord, visiting her niece, Mrs. Ross Zach ary and Mr. Zachary. While there Mr. and Mrs. Zachary and Miss Slagle spent a while at Carolina Beach. Cindy Osborne, of West Palm Beach, Fla, spent the week-end in franklin. " . Mrs. Oscar B. Wilson, of Spar tanburg, S. C, was a guest of her sister, Mrs. J. W. C. Johnson, while in franklin with the Dowlde- Willis wedding party last week. Mr. and Mrs. Blackburn ' W. Johnson and young daughter spent the week-end in Franklin. Miss Mary Frances Page, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Page, is attending a Girl Scout camp at Camp Cateechee in Pisgah forest. John R. Faison, of Raleigh, spent the week-end in Franklin, assisting Ihomas C Mimms, newly appointed county supervisor in his work. George D. Mimms spent -the week-end here with his wife and his son, Thomas C. Mimms, who have taken an apartment in the home of Mrs. George A. Jones pn West Main street Miss Kitty Mercke, of Athens, Ua., is spending several days here visiting her aunt, Mrs. Charles A. Rowland and Mr. Rowland, at their home in the Orlando apartments on Harrison avenue. Major George Byrd, of Orlando, Fla., and, Winchester, Va., has ar rived at the franklin Lodge and Country club. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Greenwood, of Gainesville, Ga., spent the week-end here with relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. John Owens, and three children. Bill. Dick and Shir ley, of Clewiston, Fla, are spend ing a week at, tha Franklin Lodge and Country club. Bobby Porter. Joe Pattillo and Billy Wilkie left Wednesday foe j Fort Oglethorpe, Ga, where they will spend a month at the Civilian Military training camp. Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester . Leaky, of Detroit, Mich, are spending two weeks as guests at the Franklin Lodge and Country club. The Rev. Cecil Heckard and the Rev. Robert Martin, students at Duke University at Durham, are spending several days in Franklin, assisting the Rev. H. S. Williams in his work on the Franklin circuit. The Rev. H. S. Williams, pastor of the Franklin circuit, has return ed from Durham, where he has been attending a pastor's school. The Rev. W. A. Rollins, presid ing elder of the Waynesville dis trict, and the Rev. H. S. Williams, pastor of the Franklin circuit, were the guests of Dr. Furman Angel, at a fishing party at Buck Creek Sat urday. Mrs. W. L. Higdon spent last week-end at Angel hospital, where she underwent an operation on her foot. Mrs. J. G. Siler, of Asheville, is spending several days here with her brother, Ernest Rankin, at his home on Riverview street. . Neil Gibson and family, of Eas ley, S. C, were visiting Mr. Gib son's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Noah Gibson, of Franklin Route 4, Satur day night and Sunday.
