B. DUPREE ACCEPTS VIRGINIA CALL Rev. R. B. DuPree has tendered his resignation as pastor of High lands Presbyterian church effective April 1, and has accepted a pas torate at Cove ville, Va. TWO SNOWS AND ZERO WEATHER The past week Highlands exper ienced two snows and the first zero weather of the winter. The snow hampered to a great extent the week-end ice skating, although the village wis filled with visitors from Columbia, Greenville, . Walhal la, Seneca and Clemson, ,S. C, and Atlanta. The Clemson College boys rounded up shovels and cleared the melting 'snow from the ice Sun day afternoon, continuing their skating until late in the evening. Business at the drug store, soda shop, hotels and cafes had the ex perience of a Fourth of July rush HIGHLANDS LOSES TO GLENVILLE TEAMS The boys' and girls' basket ball team of Highlands high school played Glenville high on Wednes day of last week, with a score of 24 to 36 in favor of Glenville for the boys' team. The girls' team al so lost heavily to the Glenville girls. Players going to Glenville were Wayne Reese, Fred Littleton, Jr., Roy McDowell, R6y Potts and "Buck" .Monger; girls were Fran ces Ormand, jean Smith, Alice Lowry, Maxie Wright, Alice Gib son and Louise Wilson. The sched ule this week calls for a game with Glenville at Highlands "and possibly a game away from home. MRS. HENTZ ENTERTAINS CLUB Mrs. F. C. Hentz entertained the card club with a George Wash ington party at Hotel Edwards on Tuesday of last week at dessert bridge. The dessert featured the red, white and blue colors, and was served at the card tables, with place cards of red candy hatchets. A profusion of yellow and white narcissi, artistically arranged, was used to decorate the private din ing room where the three-table progressive game was played. Mrs. Wilton H. Cobb won high score prize and Mrs. Jack M. Hall the traveling prize. The guest prize was presented to Mrs. Louis A. Edwards. CHRISTIAN SERVICE SOCIETY MARCH 13 Mrs. R. J. Price will be hostess and program leader at the regular monthly meeting of the Woman's Society of Christian Service, which will be held March 13 at the Price home on Spring street Mrs. J. S. Higgins is substitute teacher this week in seventh grade ior Miss Ethel Calloway, who is confined to her home with an at tack of influenza. Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Marett had as their Sunday guests Mrs. W. J. Lunney of Seneca, S. C, and Mrs. Boone Moss of Walhalla, S. C, Mrs. John Stephen- Sewell who spent several weeks in Washington, D. C, and is now a guest at the Pierce-Moore hotel in Brevard, spent Wednesday at her home, here and had as her guest Miss Bryant of Brevard. . Mr. and Mrs. George A. Town send have returned from an ex tended visit in Louisana and La redo, Texas. They also made a short visit into Mexico. Mr. and Mrs. Townsend will have as their week-end guests Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Bamett of New Rochelle, N. Y- Mrs. J. M. Rogers has returned from a two months' visit in Dal ton, Ga- with her sons, Dewey, Jamie and Clyde Rogers, and their families W. G. Soderquist of Asheville joined Mrs. Soderquist for the week-end at the home of her mother, Mrs. uuy whom sre is spending two weeks. Edwards ictt Wednesday ior a two weeks visit to Florida. While they are away Mr. and Mrs. Louis A. Ed wards will have cahrge of the hotel. ' Mr. and Mrs. R. Abbott who have been occupying the Sheppard cottage i on Fiftli street this winter have been transferred to Roanoke, Va., following the completion of Mr. Abbott's work with the Glen ville dam project. ! Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hicks, Mrs. J. li. Watkiiw and Mr. and Mrs, Allen Whitworth spent the week end in Nashville, Tenn., where they attended "Grand Old Opry." 1 Miss Louise Hunter and her aunt, Mrs. M M. Hunter, of Pen dleton, S. C, arc expected this week-end for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Davis. Dr. and Mrs. J. K. Stoddard who spent a two weeks' vacation at Hobe Sound, Fla., returned to their, home at Cashiers last Sat urday. Colonel Ralph H. Mowbray re turned after a two months' ab sence. Following a short stay in Tallahassee, Fla., Colonel Mowbray decided to visit New Orleans, La., and was so captivated with the city's charm that he spent the re mainder'of his time there. Mrs. O. E. Young and son E'arle Young with his friend, Robert Mc Connell from- the Potts House, are spending 10 days at Mrs. Young's winter home in West . Palm Beach, Fla. Mrs. May Hunt of Grand Rapids, Mich., is spending two weeks with her brother and sister-in-laWj Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Holt. Mrs. Hunt will visit other relatives in Frank lin before returning .to her home in Michigan. John Luther Picklesimer, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Picklesimer of the Clear Creek section, has en listed in the U. S. Navy and will be stationed at Honolulu. Jim Baty, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Baty, has also enlisted in the U, S. Navy and left February 25. Miss Rebecca Nail has returned from a three months' stay in Flor ida, with Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Nail. Just before returning home Miss Nail spent two weeks with Miss Rebecca Harris at her home at Lake Weir. Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs, Jack H. Wilcox at Billy Cabin Farm were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Little , and James Stakely of Ma con, Ga. Mr. Little is director of the Macon, Ga., Little Theatre, and was director of Highlands Little Theatre last summer. Miss Sarah Thompson of High lands, who is a senior at Queens college, Charlotte, is doing her practice teaching at Dilworth school . in the fourth grade. She has been commended by the col lege as admirably fitted for her chosen profession. Mr. and Mrs. Sidney McCarty, Jr., their two children and Mrs. McCarty's nieces and nephew, Mary Hunt, James Hunt and Ma rie Neely, left Monday morning for a visit with Mr. - McCarty's parents at Orlando, Fla.
