munity. Mr. and Mrs. Cab,e are making

Mrs. L. T. Calloway entertained
with a miscellaneous shower at her
home on Bonny Crest on Friday
afternoon honoring Mrs. John L.
Sprinkles, the former Miss -Anna
E. Candler, of Hot Springs.

ing the afternoon, leaving attrac
tive and useful gifts for the hon

Miss, Ethel Holwell Kirby. and
Lewis MacBride Hubbard, both of
Asheville, were married at St.
Agnes' Episcopal church at six
o'clock Tuesday afternoon, March
25, with the rector, . the; Rev.- A.
Rufus Morgan, officiating.
The altar vases were filled with
white gladioli and ferns and can
dles were lighted in the seven
branched candlesticks, Mrs. J. VV.
Cantey Johnson was matron of
honor .and 'Mrs. Ben V. Woodruff
played the wedding music. A small
group of friends witnessed the
ceremony.
Miss Kirby, Who made- her home
in Franklin for several years, is
the daughter of the late Canon
Laurence Holwell Kirby and Mrs.
Kirby of Toronto, Canada. Mr.
Hubbard, formerly of New York
city, is the son of the late Rev.
Joseph Welden Hubbard, I). D.
and Mrs. Hubbard, of Bridgeton,
N. J. ,'
The couple will make their home
in Asheville.

several days, is reported to be im
proving. Miss Mildred Roper, .who is

Winston-Salem, visited Mrs. South

his hobby. He has recently been
seen repairing his fishing tackle
with which he has had good luck
for the last several years on the

There will be a box supper and
cake ' walk at the Higdonville
schoolhouse, Saturday night, April
5, with string music and a good

operation at Angel hospital this
week. Her condition is reported to
be .satisfactory.

riage was solemnized in Clayton,
Ga., on Sunday, March 2, 1941 at
5:30 p. m. The bride was dressed
in blue with white accessories. Mr.
and Mrs. Swiss Roberts of Cash

companied them. The couple are
now residing in' Franklin where
Mr. Higdon is employed.
