CONLEY, PHONE 104 BOLTON-SLAGLE WEDDING IN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH A beautiful wedding which united two of Franklin's most popular young people was solemnized in the Presbyterian' church Saturday afternoon, June 21, at four o'clock. At' this time Miss Margaret Estina Slagle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George M. Slagle became the bride of Claude Heath Bolton, son of A. C. Bolton and the late Mrs. Bolton, of Baden. The Kev. J. A. Flanagan, of Whitmore, S. C, former pastor, officiated. s ,; . The church was decorated with ' evergreens and baskets filled with mountain laurel and azalea. On either side of the alter were tall candelabra. f Prior to the ceremony a program of wedding music was presented " by Mrs. Henry W. Cabe, pianist,. Miss 'Mildred Akin of Murphy, violinist, and the Rev. Hubert Wardlaw, pastor of the bride, vocal soloist. Miss Akin played "Licbe- straum" by. Listz, accompanied by Mrs. Cabe. Mr. Wardlaw gang "Ah Sweet Mystery of Life" and "O Perfect Love." The bridal chorus from "Lohengrin" was .used as a processional . and Mendelssohn's wedding march as the recessiomal. "To A Wild Rase" .by McDowell was played during the ceremony Ushers for the ceremony were John R. Slagle, brother of the bride, of Franklin; Thomas H Fagg, brother-in-law of the bride, Franklin; Ed Whitaker of Bryson City, and J,. Ward Long of Franks lin. The couple entered together. . The bride wore a tucked navy sheer dress with a broad white pleated mousseline de soie bertha. She carried a nosegay of mixed . . garden flowers in pastel shades. Mrs. Slagle, mother of the bride, wore a navy and white dress with I a corsage of sweet peas and rose buds. ' Graduate Of WCTC -Mrs. Bolton is a graduate of the Franklin high school and Western Carolina Teachers' college. For several years she has .been a teach er in the Franklin school. Mr. Bolton is a graduate of the Badin high school. He is at pres ent assistant chief clerk for the Nantahala Power and Light com pany in Franklin. Immediately after the ceremony the couple left for a wedding trip through the northern state's and Canada. After July 1 they will be at home in the Orlando apartments. Out-of-town guests present for the ceremony included: Mr. and ' Mrs M. L. Holmes, uncle and aunt of the bride, of Atlanta; Mr. and Mrs. George M. Slagle, broth er and sister-in-law of the bride, of Galax, Va.; Mrs. M. A. Hender son, aunt of the bride, of David son; Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Flanagan and children, John and Anne, of Whitmire, S. C; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Whitaker of Bryson City; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Moody of Bryso,n City, and Miss Mildred Akin of Murphy, beautifully decorated with summer flowers. The high score prize was won by Mrs. John Archer, low score prize was rewarded to Mrs. Frank Duncan, and the cut prize to Mrs. John A. Sutton. A shower of handkerchiefs' was presented as a farewell courtesy to Mrs. Joel Tompkins, before she left for Bryson City for tem porary residence. Those present included Mrs. John Wasilik, Mrs. J. S. Conley, Mrs. L. H. Page, Mrs. Allan Brooks, Mrs. T. D. Bryson, Mrs. J. Ward Long, Mrs. John M. Archer, Mrs. Edwin Hyde, Mrs. James A. Suttqn, Mrs. Joel Tomp kins and Mrs. Frank Duncan. FRANKLIN CIRCUIT TO HAVE PICNIC Clark's Chapel Sunday .school will be guests of the other local churches in the Franklin Metho dist Circuit at a picnic at Clif fside Lake at 10:30 a. m. Saturday, June 18, haying gained the highest per centage of attendance increase over a four months' contest period. Horse shoe pitching, three-legged ' races and other interesting games will be special attractions The quartet now singing at the tabernacle meetings will attend. AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY TO MEET The regular meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary will be held with Mrs. John Wasilik on Friday evening, June 17, at 7:30 p. m. All members are urged .to attend as officers are to be elect ed for the coming year. in Galax, Va., after visiting Mr Slagle's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George M. Slagle, Sr. John Matt Smiley, of Fayettes ville, and Mrs. Annie Davis, of Uryson City visited . their aunt, Mr,s. Nancy Cardon at Leather ma,n .last week. Mr. Smiley, Mrs. Davis, Airs. Cardon and Mrs. El sie Hurst spent Sunday in Demor est, Ga., with Mrs. Cardon's sister, Mrs. Fannie Dillard. Carroll Gene Moore, of Gastonia, is spending the summer with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Moore in the Bethel community. W. G. Curtis is reported to be ill at his home on West Main street. ' TALLENT-HUGGINS On May 31, Miss Annie Will Huggins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Huggins was united in mar riage to Mr. Sam Tallent, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Tallent. The ceremony was pefformed by Judge Ramey at Clayton, Ga., in the presence of two friends from Franklin. The bride was attired in an at tractive aqua and navy blue' en semble with white accessories. Mr. Tallent is employed at Spencer's Garage in Highlands. The young couple will reside near Franklin. T. E. L. CLASS TO MEET TUESDAY The T. E. L. Class of the Frank- . lin Baptist Sunday school will meet Tuesday afternoon, July 1, at the home of the Misses Grace and ' Nina Camenter at 3 o'clock. All members are urged to be present. MRS. Lohr, of Shelby, has ac cepted a position as mortician with the Bryant Funeral home. Mr. Lohr, who has worked with his father for several years, is a grad uate of Mount Collegiate Institute and has recently been employed at the Wells Funeral Home in Canton. Mrs. H. A. Bethea and daugh ter, Mr,?. John L. Bethea, Jr., of Latta, S. C, were weekend guests of the former's nephew, Louis Manning, at his apartment on Harrison avenue. Rev. and Mrs. L. B. Hayes, of Greensboro, are spending several days with Mrs. Hayes' mother, Mrs. Sam L. Rogers. William M. Sutton, Jr., who is in camp at Wiiyiemucca, Nev., is here for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Sutton on Franks street. James L. Young, who is working in Charlotte, spent the weekend with his family. On his return he was accompanied by Mrs. Maude Blaine, who will spend several days there visiting her son, Doyle Blaine and Mrs. Blaine. Mrs. Levi Whitehead, of Rocky Mount, who is visiting her daugh ter, Mrs. Zeb Conley, is reported to be quite ill at the home of Mrs. Conley's. ' Mrs. Floy Weatherly, of Ander son, S. Rogers and family of Brooklyn, N. Y, spent-a short while in Franklin with Lieut. Rog ers' mother, Mrs. Sam L. Rogers, Sr, before going to Tallahassee, FUl, where he will ,be in. the Air Force. Dr. and Mrs. J. L. Stokes visited Mrs. Stokes' fcrorber at Emory University on Monday. They were accompanied by the Rev. and Mrs. Philip L. Green. Mr. and Mrs. George M. Slagle, Jr, hart returned to their borne Miss Louise Sharp, of Atlanta, has been the guest of Miss Mary Frances Page for the past week. M iss Ethel Hurst has received announcement of the marriage of her brother, Ellis U. Hurst, of Outlook, Mont, to Mrs. Ethel Jamison of Anadorko, Okla. Mrs. Hurst is. a sister of W. T. Tippett of Franklin Route 3, and Mr. Hurst is a son of the late Eb. Hurst, of Franklin Rolte 3. John Crawford who took the Civil Aeronautics Authority Train ning course at the University of North Carolina during the past few months, has successfully passed his examinations for pilot and re ceived his private pilot's license. Miss Laura Jones of Raleigh is visiting her family here for the .summer holidays. Fred v Murray, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Murray, of the : Naval hospital at Portsmouth, Va., is home on furlough. The many friends of Mrs. Frank Carmack are glad to know of her rapid recovery following ah opera tion at Angel clinic, and her re turn home at the Franklin Lodge and Golf course. During her ab sence Mrs. Carmack's sister, Miss Wetber of New York and Mrs. Ma rion Cary of Florida have taken her place as hostesses at the Lodge Mr. and Mrs. Oscar C. Bryant have returned from their wedding trip and are now at home to their many friends. '.'.'.' Woodruff is spend ing two weeks at Kanuga Lake, episcopal conference center, where she is a counselor in charge of music at the Young Peoples Camp of the Episcopal church of West ern North Carolina. Allan Brooks, Jr. is attending the Episcopal Young People's Con ference at Kanuga Lake, where .he will serve as a counselor. Mrs. John M. Gibson of Mont gomery, Ala., .is spending this week with her parents, Dr. and Mrs. F. T. Smith. Mr. Gibson is ex pected tp arrive Sunday for a few days before they return to their home. 1 Clarenfce "Red" Henry spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. John Henry. Jones has returned to. his home in Asheville after spending a few days with his daughter, Mrs. J, ' W. Cunningham in Franklin. Mr. and Mrs. Horace Cunning ham and Mrs. Cunningham's moth er, Mrs. Lance of Asheville, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mr.$. J. W. Cunningham. Dr. and Mrs. G. Frank Johnson and two daughters have returned to their home at Leaksville, after spending several days with Mrs. Johnson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Carpenter. Mrs. Morris Smith has returned to her home in Raleigh, after vis itlng her father, J. C. Dalrymple on Franklin Route 1. Mrs. Allie Ragsdale, of Delano, Calif, is visiting her brother, E. N. Cabe and Mrs. Cabe on Frank lin Route 2, and other relatives in Macon county. Mrs. Ragsdale will be remembered as Miss Allie Cabe of the Clark's! Chapel com munity. Posing- prettily at Tahiti Beach, Miami, she wears on her bathing suit the insignia of eight different ratings of the nearby Opa Locka Naval Air Station. Among them are signalmen, aerial photog raphers, master mechanics and gun nery experts. Many people of this section at tended the Cole Valley Boys Con cert at the Courthouse in Frank lin. Two of the members of the quartet were Hunter Young, of this section and Dewey Corbin of' Holly Springs. Mr. and Mrs. Stiwinter and daughter, Geraldine, of Cullasaja were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Coggins last Sunday. Miss Stella and Rose Coggins returned home with them. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Henry and daughter, Blanche, of Detroit. Mich., are visiting relatives here. Mr. Henry has returned to his home in Detroit where he is em ployed.
