subscribed the quota of $200 set
for this county by the United
Service Organization state head
quarters by the amount of $75, ac
cording to a statement by John
Archer, U. S. O. county chairman.

The town of " Highlands raised
$40 of the campaign fund.
Mr. Archer stated that he ap
preciated the cooperation and con
tributions of those who had helped
make the campaign a success and
added that if there was anyone
who had not been reached in the
campaign who desired to make a
contribution that he would turri
over any donations to the National
. United Service Organization head
quarters.

Hiawassee Two Games
The Franklin All-Stars captured
a twin-bill from , Hiawassee, Ga.,
Sunday in the Tri-State League,
winning the Opener ' 8 to 3 and
copping the night cap 11 to 0.
English, gave the visitors just
five hits in the first game, and
struck out six men, while Holsen
back set them down with one
single and .struck out mine. Sunday
the Alj-Stars go to Bryson City
for a double-header which will be
their last game on the road. They
return here to play six Sundays
and wind up the season.

Commissioners by resolution adopt

bonds, provided that said bonds
shall mature . and be made payable,
the first not more than three
years, from the date on which the

which shall be made payable not

Carolina, and notice shall be pub
lished with said Order in the man

The foregoing order has been in
troduced and a sworn statement
has been filed under the County
Finance Act showing the assessed
valuation of ' Macon County to be
$5,778,744 and the net debt of Ma
con County for other than school
purposes to be $750,931.96. A tax
will be levied on the taxable prop
erty of Macon County for the
payment of the proposed ' bonds
and interest if the same shall be
issued. .
Any citizen or taxpayer may pro
test against the issuance of ,said
bonds at a meeting of the Board
of County Commissioners to be

yellow poplar, white ash, red maple,
basswood, cucumber, white oak,
northern red oak,' chestnut, pitch
pine, black oak, chestnut oak, buck
eye, and scarlet 'oak, and an un
estimated amount of chestnut oak
tanbark and chestnut extractwood.
The Temoval of extractwood and
tanbark is optional with the pur
chaser. No bid of less than $10
per M feet, for yellow poplar; $8
per. M feet for white ash, bass
wood, cucumber, and northern red
oak; $7 for. white, oak; $3 for red
maple, black oak, and chestnut
oak ; $2 for chestnut, pitch pine,
