A marriage of interest was that
of Miss Ddss Bradley, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. W. Ray Bradley, of
Etna, to J. Broadus Pendergrass,
son of the late Rev. arid. Mrs. J." B.
Pendergrass, of Franklin.
The wedding ceremony was sol
emnized , on Monday, July 21, in
Walballa, S. G. The lie v. Mack
Goss, pastor of the First Baptist
church in Walhalla was the offi
ciating minister. ';.'
The bride was attired in a cos
tume of Navy blue and white. She
is a graduate of the Bryson City
high school and of the' Chillicothe
Business college in Chillicothe, 'Mo.
She was for several months em
ployed by the .Nantahala National
Forest service in Franklin.
Mr. Pendergrass, owner and
manager of the J. B. Pendergrass
department store 1 here, attended
Mars Hill college, and ' Carson
Newman college at Jefferson City,
Tenn. He is Oine of Franklin's
prominent business leaders...
Immediately following the cere
, mony Mr. and Mrs. Pendergrass
left on a wedding trip to Myrtle
Beach, Wrightsville Beach, Virgin
ia Beach and other points of in
terest. Mr. and Mrs. Pendergrass are
now residing in the Pendergrass
apartment on Main .street. ;

mer home near Arrowood. Mr. and
Mrs. Winn and young son of Dora
ville, Ga., have been coming to
Franklin for a number of sum
mers, and . last year bought a site
on the beautiful Wayah road where
they are developing an ideal place
to spend their vacation every year.

Legion Auxiliary Met
With Mrs. Waldroop
The meeting of the Macon coun
ty chapter of the American Leg
ion Auxiliary was enjoyed at the
home of Mrs. Charlie Waldroop
on Cartoogechaye last Monday eve
ning. The meeting was held on the
cool front porch, looking down the
valley with the new moon in the
late evening twilight.
So appropriate a summary of
that which constitutes loyal citi
zenship is the. Preamble led by
Mrs. Alf. Higdon, president, and
recited in unison, that we quote
it in full:

Pinky Tomlin
To Appear In Person At
Macon Theatre
Truman "Pinky" Tomlin, your
favorite singer of songs, who brings
his famous dance orchestra to

the Macon Theatre on August 9,
was born in Arkansas, but his pro
fessional life- is wrapped around
Oklahoma. . ... He is just past 30,
but looks like a kid- of 19, because
everything pleases him immensely.
He married his college sweetheart.
Although identified with the guitar,
lie can play all stringed instru
ments . . . Although he still gets
stage and mike fright, which
makes his face twice as red. Being
a Dixie raised boy his favorite dish
is" real fried chicken, with lots of
apple dumplings on the side, and
his favorite person is his tiny
daughter, Sylvia Ann, whose moth
er was the inspiration for Pinky's
first big song hit, "The Object of
My Affections".

Receives More Books
Mr. and Mrs.4 James Averell
have added about 15 mew books
to the Franklin Library shelves by
a gift of current fiction and non
fiction, that will be appreciated by
readers. They also have donated
their file of the National Geo
graphic magazine covering the four
year period since 1937.
Mrs. Angie W. Cox, generous
patroin of Macon county libraries,
continues to make her gifts. An
other shipment of books has just
been received, according to an an
nouncement by Mrs. Frank I. Mur
ray, librarian.
Rickman Reunion To
Be Held Sunday
Descendants of the late Merritt
Rickman will hold their annual
reunion on Sunday, August 3, at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rob
