'''. Police disclosed that she had been bludgeoned to death in her bed, with a pickaxe that was found nearby.' The crime was. probably committed on, the night of Satur day, September 13. The crime was discovered Monday morning " after by a neighbor in the,, same house. No- clue to the murderer has yet been reported. Police said that rob bery was presumably the motive. On Saturday .night she had col lected the remt from tenants oc cupying apartments in her large old residence at 88 Ellis street, in the shadow of Atlanta's sky scrapers. . ' . 'j.r ..! Vance Miles Appears In lhe forest Kanger V Paramount Pictures, ' Inc., has produced and distributed a on real version of the Forest Service picture "The Forest Ranger." The short which is entitled , "Guardians of the Wilds" has been released as one of Paramount' regular paragraphic series and is estimated to total .some 300 showings through out the country, between Septem ber 1 and November 23. Para mount's short. will no doubt serve to arouse interest im an under standing of the Forest Service and should serve as a ' good build-up for Paramaunt's feature techni color picture "The Forest Ranger." Thij news is of especial local in terest since R. Vance Miles, Jr., formerly located in Franklin as Forester Ranger on the Namtahala National Forest, plays the lead. Most of the scenes were taken in Western National Forests where Miles "did his stuff." CCC Enrollment Set For October 17 Announcement ha,s been made by Mrs. Eloise G. Franks Macon County superintendent of public welfare, that the county has been givcra an indefinite quota of young white and colored men for CCC Camps. Mrs. Franks states that the en rollment will take place October 17, and asks- that all boys, white and colored, who wish to enroll, fill out their applications as soon as possible. While there is an indefinite en rollment period ' for white boys, colored boys must make application at this time if they wish to eroter the CCC. Families of the young men seek ing enrollment must be , "eligible," though not necessarily on 'relief.
