Manning And Miss Mary Helen Moore Wed In Cambridge, Mass. Cards have becm received by friends in Franklin from Mr. and Mrs. William Franklin Moore of Chester, South, Carolina, amnounc ing the marriage of their daughter, Marv Helen to Lieutenant Louis Wilton Manning, of the United States Army, on Saturday, Aug ust first, at Cambridge, Massa chusettes. Lieutenant and Mrs. Manning have many friends here whose well wishes go with them. Mrs. Manning taught Chemistry and physical science in the Franklin High school for two years. She is a graduate of Winthrop col lege, and was qne of the most popular and talented of the high school faculty. She contributed generously of her musical talents to community and social events. Lieut. Manning was an electrical engineer with the Namtahala Pow er and Light Company for several years prior to his enlistment in the Army last Spring as Lieut, in the reserves. NO FLOWER SHOW BY GARDEN CLUB The regular meeting of the Gar den Club held Monday at the home of Mrs. Albert Ramsey de cided that, due to wur conditions. the usual August flower show would be omitted this year. Due to the inability of Mrs. E. L. McCee to accept the club's invitation to address the meeting, Mrs. R. M. Rimmer, successful grower of pansies, made an in promptu talk on her experience in growing the different varieties. A comtest which consisted of mak ing the greatest number of words out of the letters in "National Defense'', was enjoyed by all, the prize being won by Mrs. Allan Brooks,, Mrs. A. L.
