Now, It Is Tin Cans A BOUT a year ago householders were asked to ** save their empty tin cans for salvage by the government. Many people 'have done so, washing and flattening them according to instructions. This Spring the Junior Commandos from the Franklin school collected a number of these. Now, the first collection will be made by the - Coca-Cola trucks and all citizens are urged to aid and cooperate by contributing to the quota expected from this county, instructions are given in this issue in regard to the collection. The Women's Division of the local Salvage committee lias charge of this work, The tin is a vital and scarce mater t ial, urgently needed in the war effort. Macon has never yet failed to reach or over readh the quota assigned for all war contributions. It is hoped that all will get busy to reach this1 one. West's Mill JOHNNY OWENS HONORED ON BIRTHDAY Mrs. Clara West Owens honored her son, Johnny, with a party on his 10th birthday, June 11, at her home. Games were en>oyed and gifts received. At the conclusion of the games, Mrs. Owens, assist ed by Johnny, served pn'nch and cake to the guests. FREDDY WEST ENTERTAINS EPWORTH v LEAGUE Freddy West entertained th,e Epworth League Society at the home of his eawnts, Dr. and Mrs. J. L. West, last Friday evening, June 11. Gam<s were played and a large crowd w?re present. Punch and cake was served. MUSIC CLUB HAS MEETING The Music Club had its regular meeting with Mrs. Tom Rickman on Saturday, June 12. The meeting was called to order by the presi dent, Miss Valley West. A talk on the Orchestra was made by Miss Vonnie West. Miss Luree Winstead played the Marine Hymn and "When the Lights Go on Again," on the flute. Miss Zenna Pearl Rickman accompanied her at the piano. Miss Ruth West played Aida March from Verdi. Miss Valley West played "To a Wild Rose'' from McDowell, and Mis&J&ena Pearl Rickman played " Si 1 very Waves", from Wymann. Short talks on Chopin, Mozart and Mendelssohn were made by Louise Bryson, Johnny Owens and Ruth Edwards. Delicious . refreshments w.ere served. Pvt. Lyman Dalton from a camp in Louisiana spent several days visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. J>alton, recently. Mrs. Fred McLean from Whit tier, and daughter, Mrs. Louise Howell and small daughter from West Asheville, visited relatives here last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Cabe, Sr., have just received a letter from their Son, Cpl. Clyde Cabe, that he had arrived safely in North Af rica. Mr. and Mrs. John McGoilum and small son, Johnny, spent the weekend with Mrs. McCoUum's parents, Dr. and Mrs. J. L. West. Mrs. L. J. Smith from Cullowhee and daughter, Mrs. A. H. Wilson from Blackstone, Va., visited rela tives here Friday. Miss Ida Smith from Cullowhee came with them. George Sheffield, Jr , spent last weekend with relative^ in Canton. Miss.es Evelyn and Grace Davis from Webstes are visiting Ruth West, this week. * Mrs. Clayton Winstead and chil dren from Elm City are visiting relatives here. Mrs. Darrell Edwards and son, Frederick, returned to their home in Washington, last week. Miss Monalee Edwards went with them, Mr. and Mrs. Crawford Dalton from Gastonia spent several days visiting relatives here, recently. Mr. and Mrs. Chase Tatham and daughter, Patricia, spent the week end with Mrs. Tat ham's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred McGaha.
