Three Matlock Sons And Two Grandsons Cpl. Jay B. Matlock, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Matlock of West's Mill. He took his boot training at Camp Blanding, Fla. He is now stationed in Italy and writes that he is well and hap py ? ? ? Sgt. William Perry Matlock, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Mat lock, spent a 10-day furlough with his parents recently. He Is stationed at Camp Mackall, N. C. ? ? ? Sgt. Dorsey Matlock, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Matlock, en tered the service April 17, 1941 at Fort McPherson, Oa. He had three years service overseas and is now stationed In Inglewood, Calif. Eugene Philips, son of Rev. and Mrs. Hurley Philips of Dan ville, Va., and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Matlock. He fin i ished his boot training and is now stationed at Memphis, Tenn. Sgt. Robert L. McGaha, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred McGaha and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Matlock. He volunteered for overseas duty in 1941 and has been stationed in the Canal Zone the entire time. ? ? ? The four sons of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Carpenter, in service, have been home on furlough recently. They are Pfc. Jack Carpenter,, who has returned to Virginia Polytechnic Institute, where he is taking a course in engineer ing. Edgar C. Carpenter, Jr., RM 2/C, of the U. 8. Navy, is now here on furlough after be ing on active duty in the South Pacific. Herbert Dean Carpen ter A/C, has returned to his station in Yuma, Arizona. A27 National Forest Timber For Sale The National Forest timber described below will be sold at public auction to be held at the office of the Forest Supervisor, Post Office Building, Franklin, North Carolina, beginning at 2 p. m. May 15, 1944. Award will be made to the one qualified bidder quoting the highest price for the timber to be removed. Any quotation of less than the advertised price will invalidate the bid. All live yellow poplar sawtimber marked for cutting and all merchantable dead yel low poplar sawtimber located on an area embracing about 150 acres within the High Laurel Branch Unit, Nantahala River Watershed, Macon County, Nan tahala National Forest, North Carolina, estimated to be 35 M feet more or less. No bid of less than $30.00 per M feet will be considered. Each participant in the bidding will be required to have in his possession certified or cashier's check in the amount of $500.00, made payable to the Treasurer of the United States.
