HOLD ALL-DAY MEETING TO STUDY INDIA The Woman's Society for Christian Service of the Mount Zion Methodist church held an all-day meeting Wednesday at the home of Mrs Joe Setser, for a study of India A covered dish meal was served at noon. MRS WALDROOP HOSTESS AT ALL-DAY QL'ILTING Mrs. Charles Waldroop was hostess today (Thursday* at an all-day quilting at her home, Franklin, Route 1. A covered dish dinner was served at noon. FAREWELL PARTY GIVEN TIPTON BY FOREST FOLK Personnel of the Nantahala National Forest held a farewell dinner party for J. E. Personal Mention W. C. Burrell, Robert Gaines, Clyde Gailey, Willard Pender- | grass, LeRoy Berrong, and C. J. Mooney spent the week-end j on a fishing trip in East Ten nessee. They reported the fish ing good. v Robert C. Mooney, of the Mooney Motor company, left Asheville Wednesday afternoon on a special Pullman train with other dealers from this region for Willow Run, Mich., to visit the Kaiser-Frazer automobile 1 manufacturing plant. He plans j to return to Franklin - Sunday. Mrs. T. W. Johnston returned Monday from a fortnight's visit to her sister, Mrs. John Toom er, in Charlotte. Two other of the former Deal sisters ? Mrs. George Sheldon, of Salt Lake City, Utah, the former Miss Jess Deal, and "Mrs.- Lambe Johnston, of Galnsville-, Ga., the former Miss Bess Deal, also were visiting Mrs. Toomer, who is the fomer Miss Anne Deal. H Evans, of Weaverville, parents of the Hev. a Hoyt Evans, Franklin Pres byterian pastor, accompanied . by Miss Martha Elizabeth Troupe* of Telford, Penn., whose engagement to the Franklin minister was announc ed sometime ago, spent last bunday nignt here-, and attend ed the morning service at the Presbyterian church. Mr. Evans accompanied them back to Weaverville tor a few days' stay. Miss Troupe is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Evans at their Weaverville home. Mrs. Ciena Beichler, of Phila delphia, who is spending the winter in Atlanta, was here for the week-end as the guest of Mr and Mrs. Fred Slagle. Mrs. Beichler is the mother of W. K. Beichler, N. C. state forester. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Purdon spent Tuesday in Ashevllle on business. Miss Jerry Tallent, of Gas tonia, and Mrs. John Cothern, of Brevard, spent several days last week with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Tallent, Franklin Route 3. Miss Irene Stewart has re turned lo her home, Franklin, Route 3, after spending last week with relatives in Murphy. Mrs. H. E. Freas returned Monday night, after spending a fornight in Richmond, Va. While in Richmond, Mrs. Freas visited her daughter, Miss Helen Freas. Mr. and Mrs. John M. Archer, Jr., left Tuesday for St. Peters burg, Fla., where Mr. Archer attended a conference. They ex pect to return to Franklin the last of this week. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Jones left Tuesday for Tieton, Wash., where they plan to make their home. Mrs. S. R. Joines, of High Point, a former resident of Franklin, spent several dpys here last week as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Henry, Sr. C. B. Campbell, of Sylva, who M now general agent for the King and Franklin circus, was here the first of the week mak ing preliminary arrangements lor the circus' showing In Franklin April 26. Dover R. Owensby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Owensby, of Flats. A graduate of Nan tahala High school, she has been employed by the Western Union in Durham and Chapel Hill for the past three years. She and Mr. Ayers, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Ayers, of Danese, W. Va., and is now a student of the Univer sity of North Carolina, were married in Durham January 17. Charge Day Meet Marked By Music, Sermon, Business A sermon by Dr. Walter B. West, district superintendent, the quarterly conference, and singing by various groups fea tured last Sunday's charge day meeting of the Franklin ivleth odist circuit, held at Clark's Chapel church. Following Dr. West's sermon, on tithing, based on the third chapter of Malachi, a bounti ful lunch was spread on tables in the basement of the church. The quarterly conterence was the first order of business after lunch, and the singing followed. Groups participating including the Bethel choir, the Friendly Four quartet, of Anderson, S. C., the Snow Hill choir, and the Smith trio, of Anderson. brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Crawford. Surveys show that the potato tuberworm is present in 42 North Carolina counties. BIRTHS Mr and Mrs. M. S. Wilson, ol Atlanta, have announced the birth ol a son at the Piedmont hospital, Atlanta, March 31. Mrs. Wilson is the former Miss Rosalind Bulgln, daugnter ui Mrs. George M. Bulgln, of Frank lin, and of the late Mr. Bulgin. The elder Mrs Bulgin will leave the last of this Week to spenu sogetime with her daughter.
