Tuesday, Wednesday, July 5, 6 SCHOOL BAND IS PRACTICING TWICE WEEKLY Womack, Df-sctor At Bryscn City, Tikes Over Instruction Don Womack, of Avondale and Bryson City, who has succeed ed Glenn Ruff, of Western Car olina Teashers college, Cullow whee, as summer director of the school band here, is spend ing three afternoons a week in Franklin. Band practice is conducted atf the School budding each Monday and Friday, and on Wednesdays Mr. Womack gives private lessons in band. Mr. Womack, who is teacher and director of band In the Bryson City shcool, is able to give more time to the Franklin band than Mr. Ruff could, it was explained by R. G* Sutton, principal of the school here, since Mr. Ruff is now teaching in summer school at Cullowhee. Funds to pay Mr. Womack for his Monday and Friday after noons will come from donations, Mr. Sutton explained. The Lions club, he said, has given $230 to the band fund, $100 toward pay ing the summer instructor, and $130 for the band's bass drum. Several individuals also have made contributions, Mr. Sutton said. Unless other arrangements are made between now and fall, direction of the band will be taken over at the opening of school by Miss Franqueline Mul llnax, of Asheville, who has been employed to teach public school music here next year. Blaine Family Will Hold Dinner Sunday Members of the Blaine family connection will hold a picnic dinner-reunion at the home of Mr. and Mr?. O- L. Blaine, near the Double Branches, Sunday, It was announced thU week. The sponsors of the gathering em phasized that all members of the family are invited. Those attending are requested to bring picnic lunches. Miss Amanda Slagle is visit ing her sister, Miss Lucy Slagle, in Atlanta. Miss Fayweese Choate, of Charlotte, has returned home, following a week's visit with Mrs. Fred Slagle. Mrs. Robert E. Lee and son, Bobbie, are in Fairmont, Ga., for a visit. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sherman, of St. Petersburg, Fla., have moved into their new home on the Wayah road. The Rev. and Mrs. F. O. Dry man, of Lake Junaluska, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Slagle. Miss Jessie Sutton, of Decatur, Ga., is the guest here of her aunt, Mrs. J. E. Perry, Sr. Mrs. Harry Higgins recently returned from Haines City, Fla., where she attended the 'wed ding of her cousin, David Rog ers, III, and Miss Virginia Angel, of Haines City. D. E.
