STORY BURTONS ARK HONORED AT RECEPTION, SHOWER Mrs. Roliver Baty, Mrs. Har old Rideout, and Mrs. Pratt Mc Clure entertained with a recep tion and shower Thursday night at Harold's cafe, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Bidd E. Burton, of Washington, N. C., whose mar riage was an event of June 4 in the Episcopal church of that city. For the reception, Mrs. Bur ton wore a costume of navy taffeta and a corsage of white carnations. The bride's table held a three tiered wedding cake, topped with a miniature bride and groom. Entwining the cake was a lei of mountain laurel blos soms shading from white to deep pink, flanked by lighted candles. Clusters of laurel blos soms caught with pink ribbon ? bows marked the corners of the table. Miss Doris Potts presided at the punch bowl, and the gift record was kept by Mrs. Mc Clure. Approximately one hundred persons called between the hours of 8 and 11. Mrs. Burton is the former Miss Hilda Scott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Scott, of Wash ington. Mr. Burton is the son ,of Mrs. J. A. Baty, of Highlands, and John T. Burton, of Atlanta, for the past two years he has held the position of state high way patrolman at Washington. Henley Arrives To Aid Early During Summer The Rev. George G. Henley, who will serve as associate min ister of the Highlands-Cashiers Methodist charge this summer, arrived In Highlands Tuesday, and will preach at the Cash iers church Sunday morning. The pastor, the Rev. Robert E. Early, will preach at the 11 o'clock service at Highlands. All manufactured articles used In Guam are Imported from the United States. N Rotariaris To Observe Ladies' Night T uesday The Highlands Rotary club will hold a ladles' night supper meeting next Tuesday at High lands Inn, with a guest speaker from the Charlotte Rotary club, it has been announced by John H. C. Perry, president-elect of the Highlands club. The program 1 will Include singing and other features, under the supervision of Presi dent C. Edward Potts. Personal Mention Frank E. Mrs. Ruth Sewell and son, Steve Sewell, of Statesboro, Ga., are occupying the Trice cottage on East Main street for the re mainder of June. Dir. Olire Arrives Foi1 Summer Study At Biology Station Dr. Lindsay Olive of the de partment of biology of Colum bia University, New York City, Is now In residence at the High lands Biological station. Dr. Olive Is working on the taxon omy of certain fungi and also explo'ing them for cytological study. Two of Dr. Olive's stu dents from Columbia university will arrive later to assist in this work, as well as conduct Inves tigations of their own. Dr. and Mrs. Olive are occupying their summer home on Lake Sequoya. Dr. Eugene P. Odum and one of his students' Robert Humph ries, of the University of Geor gia Athens, Oa., are expected to arrive Sunday. The Rev. and Mrs. Alexander Kenner of Wilmore, Ky , are here for a visit with Mrs. Ken ner's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Davis. Mr. and Mr*. W. D. Oglesby, of Coral Cables, Fla., spent the week-end at their summer home on Cullasaja drive, en route to California, by way of Yellow stone Park.
