Highlands Highlights ms. m. o. iron IS ATTEND BENEFIT CHURCH SILVER TEA 8eventy-flve persona attend ed the Wednesday afternoon silver tea, given under the sponsorship of the Woman's auxiliary or the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, at "World's End", the home of Mrs. R. B. Eskrlgge, on Satulah mountain. The home was almost garden-like with Its artistic flower decorations, arranged by Mrs. Anne Rymer. Receiving with Mrs. Eskrlgge were her daughters, Dr. Edith Eskrlgge Haynes, of Greenville, S. C., and Mrs. Rudolf Hartz burg, of New Orleans, and offic ers of the auxiliary. The aux iliary officers Include Mrs. H. D. Porterfleld, Mrs. E. R. Gil bert, Miss Katherine J linger-* man. Miss Rebecca Nail, and Mrs. Shorter Rapkin. Others as sisting in receiving were Mrs. George Saussy and Mrs. Fred Gould. The tea-table was covered with an Italian cutwork cloth and centered with a silver bowl holding white summer flowers. Interspersed with maidenhair fern, and flanked by sliver can delabra with white tapers. Mrs. Tudor N. Hall poured punch, and Mr*. William C. Nail and Mr*. Val 8. Pleraon assisted in serving. The Rev. A. Rufus Morgan, rector, and others from frank lin were present, as well as the Rev. Frederick L. Eckel, of St. Philip's cathedral. In Atlanta, and Mrs. Eckel, who are spend ing a vacation In the Episcopal rectory in Cashiers. The auxiliary members have expressed thanks to the gener ous friends who helped to make the tea a success, and especi ally to Chief A M. Nelson, who directed the parking of the cars. MISS ANDERSON HONORED BY AUXILIARY AT CLYDE On her visit last week with Mrs. Orover Haynes In Clyde, Miss Angela Anderson, bride elect of James Edwin Hardin, was honored with a party given by the young woman's auxiliary of the Baptist church. In a can dlelight service preceding the party, Miss Anderson was pre sented with a white Bible, which she will carry at her wedding next Sunday. i Following the presentation of the Bible, the party was held In the church recreation room, where refreshments were served. Reese, Jr., Mrs. Thomas Potts, and Mrs. Coleman M Reese were hos tesses at a miscellaneous show er Friday afternoon at the home of the latter, compliment ing Mrs. Davis Rhodes, a July bride. The home was decorated with mixed dahlias. Mrs. Thomas Potts poured punch, and refreshments were served buffet style at a table covered with a lace cloth and centered with a floating ar rangement of white and red dahlias. The courtesy Included forty persons. THEATRE GROUP HONORS FRED ALLEN AT PICNIC A picnic supper at CUffslde Lake Thursday evening honor ed Pfc. Fred C. Allen, former director of the Highlands Com munity theatre who Is on a ten day leave. The supper was given by members of the thektre group and their families. Mr. Allen directed many of the Community Theatre's most successful plays, following the resignation of Director Arthur Little. Fifty persons enjoyed the occasion with Mr. Allen. MRS. HOWE PRESENTS PROGRAM AT AUXILIARY Mrs. James H. Howe, chair man of Christian education, presented a short program at the August meeting of the Woman's auxiliary of the Epis copal Church of the Incarna tion, Thursday afternoon at the church. Mrs. Howe's program was the first of several such programs planned by the aux iliary. Highlands Loses To Clayton, G*. And Iva., S. C. Teams Alter five wins, the High lands nine lost two games In a row? to Clayton, Oa., and Iva, S. C. The Highlands team bowed to Clayton, 20 to 4, in a night game last Thursday, and was defeated by Iva, 9 to 5, in a game here Sunday afternoon. The locals will meet the Ap pleton company team from Anderson, 8. C., on the High lands diamond Sunday after noon at 2:30. In last Sunday's contest, Iva got 16 hits, 9 runs, and made one error. The Highlands statis tics were: 10 hits, five runs, five errors. Highlands' Bud Potts got the longest hit, a triple down the right field. Personal Mention Mr. and Mrs. C. H.
