Stiles, Macon Coun ty native who left here as a young man to become promi nent in the business, civic, and church life of Haines City, Fla., , died at his home there last Thursday. He was 57 years old. Mr. Stiles had suffered from a heart affection for several years, and retired from active business life sometime ago. On recent visits to Franklin, how ever, he had appeared remark ably well. . After attending the public schools here and Carson-New man college in Tennessee, he was graduated from Wake For est college. Successful as a business man in Haines City, he served that community in many capacitl-a He was city commissioner lor six years, served two terms is mayor, and was chairman of the building committee of the Haines City Baptist church. A Rotarlan for 25 years, he serv ed as president of the Rotary club in his home town. He was a York Rite Mason and a Shriner. He was a director of . the Reynolds Brother Lumber com pany at Albany, Ga., a partner in the Polk County Fertilizer company, and until recently was owner of the Highlands Wholesale Grocery company at Haines City. Survivors include his widow, the former Miss Betty Saunders, of Evansville, Ind.; a son, James Daniel Stiles, who is a student at Wake Forest; and two sisters, Mrs. E. C.
