# Highlands Highlights # MBS. H. O. STORY Benefit For Hospital To Be Held At Theatre Charlie Monroe and his "Ken tucky partners" will appear in a performance at 8 o'clock to night (Thursday) at the Oalax Theatre. The show is under the sponsorship of the Highlands hospital, and will be held in the Galax theatre through the courtesy of O. F. Summer, own er. Admission prices will be 30 and 60 cents. Atlanta Catholic Group Has Retreat In Highlands A retreat fc an Atlanta group was held at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic church here last week-end. Monsignor Cassidy of Christ the King Cathedral in Atlanta was re treat- master. The visitors were week-end guests at Hotel Ed wards. MISS rUTTS, WHO IS ILL., GIVEN 'SUNSHINE' PARTY Miss Lois Potts was honored with a "sunshine party" Satur day afternoon at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Potts. Hostesses were Mrs. M. S. (Bud) Thompson, Mrs. Walter Houston, and Mrs. Mau rice Cleaveland. Sixty guests called dtiring the ? afternoon and the honor guest was the recipi ent of many varied and useful gifts. Miss Potts is convalescing from a second operation on her knee, injured in a fall last summer. The fall and the op erations have kept her out of school this year, which would have been her senior year. Miss Potts hopes to finish her high school education and take a nurses' training course. An 'experimental pasture on muck-land in Florida produced 2,040 pounds of beef per acre. % WANDA JEAN HOPPER HONORED ON BIRTHDAY Mrs. Fred Hopper entertain ed Monday afternoon with a party for her daughter, Wanda Jean, who was ^celebrating her eight birthday anniversary. The party was held in the second grade room at Highlands school, with 24 of Wanda Jean's class mates and her teacher, Miss Nina Howard, present. The refreshment table held a striking centerpiece of jonquils and begonias, arranged by Wan da Jean's uncle, Clyde Hopper. The white birthday cake was decorated with pink rosebuds and lighted pink candles. Re freshments. were ice cream, birthday cake, and candy. Fav ors were vari-colored balloons. Mrs. Earl Grunkleton assisted Mrs. Hopper in entertaining the children. PERSONALS Bobbie W. Hopper, navy sea man, has returned to Long ] Beach, Calif., after spending his leave here with his mother, Mrs. Pratt McClure. Seaman Hopper has had 10 months' duty in Korean waters on the U.S.S. Taluga. Another son, Sergeant First Class Mack Hopper, is with the Dixie division at Fort Hood, Texas. . Going down to Pendleton, S. C., Wednesday for the ordina tion to the priesthood of the Rev. Jack Wallace Cole, pastor of St. Paul's Episcopal church, were the Rev. A. Rufus Morgan, and his sister, Mrs. H. E. Freas, j of Franklin, and Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Davis, of Highlands. Dr. and Mrs. Ralph M. Sar : gent, of Haverford college, Hav | erford, Pa., are spending several 'days at their summer home on I East Main street during the spring holidays. ASK RED CROSS FUND WORKERS FOR REPORTS County Is About $1,000 Short Of Goal, But Total Is Not In County Red Cross workers were requested this week to turn In campaign funds at the local Red Cross office in the Bank of Franklin building not later than Saturday noon. The annual fund-raising cam paign closed Monday with the county about $1,000 short of its $3,021 goal. However, more than 35 of the 75 workers still have not reported contributions, ac cording to drive officials. Funds raised through Tuesday totaled approximately $2,000. Macon's original goal, $2,826, was boosted by $195 last week, following a series of toronadoes that turned sections of six southern states into disaster areas. Bower's Finishes Remodeling Job On Store Interior Bower's store here has com pleted the remodeling of the In terior of the store. All the old shelves were re moved and new fixtures were installed throughout. The in terior was painted and new lighting fixtures put in, and the awning over the front windows was replaced with transparent shades. R. L. West is manager of the "store, situated in the Bank of Franklin building. Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell C. Weaver, of Cincinnati, Ohio, are at their summer home on Billy Cabin mountain for a few days' vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Morgan, of Atlanta, were among the guests registered at thQ Potts house over the week-end. Friends of Mrs. M. M.
