Telephone 211 i MISS PERTEKT BECOMES BRIDE OF MAX PARRISH Miss Ruth Cannon Perteet, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Perteet, of Wiley, Ga., was mar ried to Max Parrish, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Parrish, of Otto, In a candlelight ceremony Sat urday evening at the Presby terian church In Wiley. The Rev. L. B. Gibbs officiat ed, using the double ring cere mony. The church was decorated wtlh native greenery, floor bas kets of white gladiolus and candelabra holding lighted ca thedral tapers. A program of wedding music was presented by Mrs. W. S. Bea.rden, pianist, and Mrs. Bill Blalock, vocalist. The bride, who was given In marriage by her father, wore a ballerina length gown of white tuLo over white satin trimmed In Chantilly lace. Her fingertip veil of illusion was attached to a cap of matching lace trimmed with seed pearls. She carried a white Bible topped with white orchids. Mrs. William Parrish, of Nor folk, Va., sister-in-law of the bridegroom, was matron of hon or. She wore a gown of coral embossed net over gold satin with matching headdress. She carried an arm bouquet of pink shattered carnations. William L. Parrish, of Nor folk, Va., served as his brother's best man. Rafe Teague and Calvin Henson were ushers. The bride's mother wore pink silk with brown accessories and a corsage of gardenias. The bridegroom's mother wore a powder blue dress with navy blue accessories and a gardenia corsage. Mrs. Parrish is a graduate of the Lakemont High school. Mr. Parrish is a graduate of Franklin High school and at tended N. C. State college in Raleigh. He is now serving as Instructor with the Veteran's Farm Training program here. PLAN INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS MAY 5 Installation of officers is planned at a luncheon meeting' of the Franklin Garden club May 5 at the Franklin Presby terian church, it was announced this week. Sloan, of Franklin, have announced the engagement of their daugh ter, Miss Dorothy Anne Sloan, of Charlotte, to Clayton Leon Gibbs, of Charlotte, son of Mrs. James M. Gibbs, of Reidsville, and of the late Mr. Gibbs. Miss Sloan is a graduate of the Franklin High school and majored in voice and music ed ucation at the Woman's College of the University of North Car olina, after which she did grad [ uate work at the Juilliard School | of Music in New York City and j the School of Theology of Em ; ory university in Atlanta. Far several years she was the di 1 rector of Christian Education at Dilworth Methodist church, Charlotte. Her present position is that of director of Junior Red Cross for the city of Char lotte and Mecklenburg county. Mr. Gibbs is a graduate of Greensboro Senior High school and attended Elon college two years before entering the army for service in Europe. On his return, he entered the college of engineering of Duke univer sity, and was graduated in elec trical engineering. He is pres ently employed by the Duke Power company. The wedding date is set for May 23 at Dilworth Methodist church, Charlotte. Frederick Slagle has returned to the Norfolk (Va.) Naval base after spending a ten-day leave at his home on Cartoogechaye. Mrs. W. A. Rogers, Mrs. Ly man Hlgdon, Mrs. Charles Con ley, Mrs. Roy Beshears, and Mrs. Frank Higdon visited the Magnolia Gardens near Charl eston, S. C. recently. Thomas Talley, Of Highlands, Dies March 20 Thomas Nathaniel Talley, a 26-year-old Macon County na tive, died March 20 in a Sylva hospital after an illness of about six weeks, it has been learned here. Gravfeside rites were con ducted the following day at 11 a. m. at the Bryson cemetery, on Clear Creek, by the Rev. Oscar Nix and G. R. Talley. Born April 9, 1925, Mr. Talley was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Talley, of Highlands. He was a member of the High lands Methodist church and served as superintendent of the Clear Creek Methodist church Sunday school before moving to Atlanta, Ga., about six years ago. In 1945, he was married to Miss Winefred Chastaln, who survives. Other survivors Include his parents; a daughter, Janet; two sisters, Mrs. Lyman Picklesimer, of Highlands, Walhalla route, and Mrs. Richard Burton, of Atlanta, Ga.; and two brothers, Claude and Radford Talley, of Highlands. Arrangements were under the direction of a Sylva funeral home. Beauty Culture Scholarships Being Offered Two Franklin High school seniors will receive $100 schol arships toward his or her tu ition at the Harper Method Beauty school in Atlanta. Ga., according to Principal R. G. Sutton. One scholarship is being of fered by the Martha Matilda Harper Memorial foundation, the other by a local doctor. The two recipients will be judged on the basis of a special aptitude test, which will de termine their fitness for the beauty culture field, It was ex plained. All members of the senior class, both boys and girls, are eligible to compete for the scholarships. The winners will be announced prior to gradua tion exercises in May.
