What's New At Franklin High

A number of students entered
the annual Franklin High School
fishing contest Tuesday. All ang
lers bringing notes from their
parents were excused from school
at 12:15 for the first day of
trout season.
Prizes were awarded for the
largest rainbow, brown, and spec
kled trout caught. First prize for
the rainbow was a fibre glass fly
rod and second prize was a land
ing net; brown trout, first prize
was a fibre glass fly rod and
second prize a box of hooks, sin
kers, line, and other assorted fish
ing equipment; brook trout, first
was a fibre glass rod and a reel
and second a line and a trout 1

The intramural basketball
tournament between homerooms
is now in full swing. Softball and
volleyball tournaments will also
get under way.
These games are played dur
ing noon hour. Varsity athletes
are not allowed to compete in
the sports they were in on the
varsity squads. Final playoffs are
set for the third week in April.
Field day events among con
testants from the homerooms
will be featured on that day.
Broad jumping, 50-yard dash.
100-yard dash, 50-yard relay, and
100-yard relay are some of the
events scheduled.

Dr. D. M. Nelson, pastor of the

Parker High cafeteria.

Several F. H. S. students are
training for the W. N. C. Track
Meet for high school students to
be held at Memorial Stadium in
Asheville April 29.
Both boys and girls events are
planned. Individual trophies will
be awarded.

May 6 is the date set for the
annual Elementary School Field
Day to be held at Franklin High. I
Academic and athletic events will I
be featured this year. The Field ;
Day is sponsored by the Franklin
Rotary Club.
Eighth graders register for next
year's courses when the field da>
is held. They will be familiarized
?with Franklin High and will have
lunch in the cafeteria.
Students from Otto. Union,
Cartoogechaye, Cullasaja, East
Franklin, Co wee, Iotla, and
Franklin Elementary will parti
cipate in the field day events.
Last year Cu.iasaja placed first.
Franklin second, and Union third
in the combined athletic-academ
ic contests.
