And the same thing applied to the "Kingston Station" layout along the tracks near Otto. "You can't stir 'em with a stick," was the report out of Clayton, where the movie com- , pany has set up headqifarters. j The arrival of the steam locomotives, "The General" and "The Texas" on the Tallulah Falls created near traffic jams , as the word spread. Seek Autographs Autograph seekers have been, I and still are, beseiging Mr. Dis- j ney, Fess (Davy Crocketti Park- i er, and Jeff Hunter and others of the 24-member company from Hollywood. Mr. Parker is being cast in : the role of Yankee Capt. J. j. j Andrews, who, with a group of ! volunteers, stole "The General" in a raid plotted to sabotage j the railroad between Marietta and Chattanooga. Mr. Hunter is playing the part of Confed erate Capt. W. A. Fuller, who chased the stolen train in "The j Texas". Chosen because of its rustic setting and wooden trestles, the | seetion of Tallulah Falls track I from the "Y" to Clayton has , been transformed into a by gone area by the magic of the Disney technicians Special sets (most of them are shells of authentic build ings i dot the landscape. Spectators Marvel Spectators continue to marvel | at the authenticity ? the fresh lumber that before their very j eyes was transformed L into | weathered and almost dilapi dated walls in a set; fresh paint which mysteriously faded and | peeled in a matter of minutes [ to blend with the scene; fresh j brick that became rounded, and worn almost with a wave of a worker's hand; a new picket fence that one minute was j strong and sturdy and the next i appeared ready to collapse i under the breath of a gentle breeze. This is the abracadahra of Hollywood. But the old wood-burning j steam engines being used in the j chase are real. They're the old timey work horses, and the withdrawal by most railroads of steam engines makes them even more popular, since any number of the younger genera tion has never seen a "steam puffer". If, and when, the weather breaks and filming begins, the Disney company expects to be here about 30 days. No. 6 Wells, Jim Liner, Homer Coch ran, E. R. McGough, of Asheville, do ing the honors. Mr. McGough is executive vice-president of the Asheville Agricultural Development Coun cil. A supper, to which the pub lic is invited, is set for 6:30 at the new building as a prelimi nary feature of the dedication. A small charge will be made for the meal, according to com munity officers. At the dedication, special recognition will be given A. B. Slagle, who donated the land for the building, and W. W. Reeves, Franklin hardware mer chant, for his cooperation in the building program. The young people of the community are to be in charge of the evening's program. The Rev. A. Rufus Morgan, Episcopal rector, will lead the devotional prior to the open ing of the ceremony. Practically all labor in erect ing the 28 by 60 foot one-story building was donated by citi zens of the community and friends. More than $3,000 was expended by the community for materials. Construction was started in the spring of 1954 and regular meetings were held soon after it was roughed in. As funds became available, phases of the building program were completed. In addition to a large meeting hall, the build ing has a kitchen and rest rooms. Clothes Plea Is Sounded A plea for clothing to restock the rapidly diminishing supply in the "Children's Clothing I Closet" has been sounded by the Franklin Junior Woman's Club. While any will be accepted, present needs call for clothes for boys between the ages of 6 and 12 and for girls between 8 and 10. The opening of school has depleted the "closet", according to club officials. Persons with clothing to con tribute are asked to telephone | Mrs. Nancy Keener, at 186, or Mrs. Janelle Sanders, at 265. ! The "closet" to provide cloth - , ing for needy children is a club ' project. 3.5 Miles Of Highway Work Done In August During August, 3.5 miles of j road work was done by the \ State Highway Commission in | , this county, according to a re port from the district commis sioner, Harry E. Buchanan. Forces strengthened the ex- ] isting surface with traffic- ] bound macadam of the follow ing 12-foot wide secondary roads: Jones Creek Road, for 1.6 miles, and Walnut Creek Road, 0.7. County-wide, a total of 1.2 miles of secondary roads, all 12 feet wide, were spot patched by the highway crews. EVANS FAMILY MEETING The Evans family reunion will be held at Mrs. Lillie Al lison's at Aquone on Sunday , (October 2), it has been an nounced. It's Burning . . . But Where? An alarm was sounded Sun day afternoon, but members of the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department couldn't locate the fire. The reason? Chief A. C. Ty singer says the person who call ed in the alarm failed to give directions, reporting only a fire "at the foot of Cowee Moun tain". (It later developed It was a minor brush fire in the Wa tauga section.) "We can't find a fire If peo ple don't tell us specifically where it is," the chief declared. He suggested that in the fu ture complete directions be giv en and in the case of an out of-town call that someone be stationed on the highway to as sist with directions. Bradley's Plan Open House For 50th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Everette Brad ley, of the Oak Grove commun- | ity, will celebrate their golden (50th i wedding anniversary Sunday. They will hold open house from 2 to 4 o'clock for their j friends. I CLITB TO MEET The Franklin Garden Club will meet Monday, October 3, at 2:30, at the home of Mrs. J. Ward Long. Highway Pa trolman A. A. Lewis showed a safety film at last week's meet ing of the Rotary Club here. There were 24 visiting Ro tarians and about 15 members present. P. T. A. 'Harvest Sale' To Be Held October 15 The money-raising "harvest sale" planned by the Franklin Parent-Teacher Association will be held October 15. The Press last week erroneously gave the date as the 14th. News Making ? By BOB SLOAN Continued From Editorial Page small concerns, each trying to build a better mouse trap? The third danger from vol ume production is perhaps its greatest. How much damage to the individual character of man has the assembly line done? Certainly some of the answer to problems like juvenile delin quency can be found in the change in the characters of some parents who are working on assembly lines in our indus trial giants. The assembly lines and these problems have grown together. Much good has come from, volume production, but like many other powerful forces that, if properly directed, do good, it must be watched and used with care.
