GEORGIA BIRD CLUB MEETING SLATED HERE HIGHLANDS ? Members of the Atlanta (Oa.) Bird Club will gather here over the week end for a meeting and field trip. Mrs. Thomas H. Tyson and E. C. Ekdahl are planning the club's activities. Saturday morning, Mr. Ek dahl will lead a "bird walk" in search of migratory birds and those that spend the entire year in this area. In the eve ning, some of the club members will show nature slides they have taken. As a special fea ture, a number of slides loaned by Mrs. Helen Cwlckshank, an outstanding nature photograph ' er, will be shown. | Sunday morning the club members will make a trip to I "Tyson Valley" and afterwards ! will go to the Tyson home, "On i the Mountain", for their final session and bird count. Methodist School To Open Sunday The first session of a training school for Christian workers will open Sunday evening at 7:30 at the First Methodist Church. ' Sessions also are set for the same hour Monday and Tues day. Open to all workers of the 20 Methodist churches in Ma;on, the school will Include a course on "Teaching Children In the Church", with Mrs. G. M. Lock ablll, of Ashevllle, in charge; "Teaching Youth", by Miss Ma rion Craig, of Salisbury, who is director of youth work for the W. N. C. Conference; "Youth Friendships", by the Rev. R. T. Houts, Jr., pastor of the High lands church; and "Adult Work in the Church School", by George Rudlsill, of Salisbury, director of adult work in this conference. The sponsors of the school are the participating churches and the Conference Board of Education. Carson 4-H Club Plans For Party Plans for a Halloween party were made by the Carson 4-H Club at its October 5 meeting at the community building, ac cording to Geneva Ledbetter, reporter. The group also discussed get Sfc. Britton Back Home From Duty In Germany After being stationed In Ger many for three years with the U. 8. Army occupational forces, Sfc. J. C. Britton Is spending a 20-day leave at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. p. N. Britton, on Route 3. Veteran of the Korean War, the Macon County soldier, who Is making the service his career, did duty In Hellbrom, Germany, with the 60th Infantry Regi ment. He was wounded in Ko rea in 1950 and wears four bat tle stars. He had some four and a half year's duty in the Pacif ic area, including Korea and Japan. After enlisting in June, 1946, Sfc. Britton received basic training at Fort Jackson, S. C. State-side he has served brief ly at Fort Knox, Ky., and Port Warden, Wash. At the end of his leave here, he is to report for duty with an honor guard regiment at Fort Myer, Va. ting equipment for the play ground. Refreshments were served fol lowing the meeting.
