Accidentally Discharged .22 Rifle Kills Grant James M. Grant, a native of this county, died from an accident al gunshot wound February 10 at his farm home near Eliijay, Ga . it has been learned here It is understood Mr. Grant, 42, tripped on a wire at his hog lot. and, in falling, caused the dis charge of a .22 rifle he was carry ing. The bullet entered his head, causing instant death, it is said. There were no eyewitnesses to thr accident. Born and reared near Fla'?. he had been living in Gilmer County. Ga.. for nearly 16 years. He was a member of the Briar town Baptist Church. Funeral services were conducted the 12th at 2 p. m. at the Pleas ant Grove Baptist Church, near Eliijay. by the Rev. J. R. Cain. Burial was in the church ceme tery. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mollie Pendergrass Grant, a daughter. Carolina, a son. Richard, his father and mother. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Grant, of Eliijay. four sisters. Mrs. Maude Grant. Mrs. Ila Dalrymple. Mrs: Kath leen Gaddis. all of Eliijay. and Mrs. Daphne Cochran, of Nan tahala. and three brothers. Guy Grant, of Decatur. Ga.. Fred Grant, of Eliijay. and Earl Grant, of Palatka. Fla. O. E. S. Fetes State Official 0*1 Visit Here Nequassa Chapter. No. 43, Order of the Eastern Star, en tertained Mrs. Hilda Hallibur ton, of Clyde, worthy grand ma tron. on her official visit last Thursday night. Other grand officers attend ing the local function, which was held at the pew Masonic Temple, were Mrs. Maude John son. of Asheville, grand Either; Mrs. Faye West, of Swannanoa, grand representative of Alberta, Canada: and Mrs. Shirley Mc Han, of Bryson City, grand rep resentative of Indiana. A dinner for the officers was held prior to the meeting. Mrs. Halliburton was guest of honor at a reception afterwards at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ly man Higdon. I Approximately 100 were on hand for the meeting. Visitors came from the East Laporte, Highlands, Bryson City, Murphy, Clayton. Ga., and Dillsboro chapters. M'NAB Summer Visitor Dies On The 15th At His Home In Pompano W. Harry McNab. husband of the former Miss Dora Phillips, of Franklin, died February 15 at his home in Pompano. Fla.. after an illness of several months. The couple visited here during the summers. Funeral services for Mr. Mc Nab. who was one of the first settlers of Pompano. were con ducted at the First Methodist Church in Pompano on the morn ing of the 17th, and burial fe' lowed in the church cemetery. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, W. Harry Mc Nab, Jr.. a daughter, Mrs. Ken neth Walker, a sister. Mrs. Thom as Chapman, and a brother. Rob ert McNab, all of Pompano. and three grandchildren. Several members of Mrs. Mc Nab's family here attended the funeral . Mrs. Vinson Dies At 76 At Her Home Mrs. Ella Justice Vinson, j widow of J. T. Vinson, died last 1 Thursday 'February 16. at 3:30 a. m. at her home on Franklin, Route 2. Seventy-six years old, she had been seriously ill for three days. Funeral services for Mrs. Vin | son, a native of this county, were conducted Saturday at 2 p. m j at Dryman's Chapel by the Rev Glenn Anderson, the Rev. J W Baty. and the Rev. Eugene Wal ters. Burial was in the church cemetery. Born June 25. 1879. Mrs. Vin son was the daughter of Samuel C. and Mrs. Jane Johnston Jus I tice. She and Mr. Vinson were married February 22. 1905, in j this county. He died in October. 1S48. Mrs. Vinson was a member j of the Asbury Methodist Church. Surviving are five sons.
