MISS VINSON TO WED
PARKS H. BROWN
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Vinson, of
Athens, Ga., formerly of Macon
County, have announced the en
gagement of their daughter, Miss
La Verne Vinson, to Parks H.
Brown, son -of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil
Brown, of Elberton, Ga.
The wedding will take place
Sunday. August 26, at the Prince
Avenue Baptist Church in Athens,
immediately following the morn
ing worship service.

miscellaneous shower Friday eve
ning at the Franklin Methodist
Church dining room, honoring
Miss Margaret Stump, fiance of
the Rev. Bob Goldston.
The room was decorated with
arrangements of garden flowers.
Miniature bride's cakes and
punch were served.
The hostesses presented the
honoree with a corsage.
Fifteen guests called.
Miss Stump, a graduate stu
dent at Emory University, At
lanta, Ga., is from New Grleans,
La.

Mr. and Mrs. Andy Lee Howard,
of Dillard, Ga., Route 1, have an
nounced the marriage of their
daughter. Miss Anna Will Howard,
to Harry Gilmer Henson, son of
Mrs. L. M. Henson and the late
Mr. Henson, of Otto.
The marriage was solemnized
July 8 at the home of the Rev.
R. L. Poindexter.
For her wedding the bride chose
a suit of ice blue satin brocade,
with which she wore white acces
sories and a corsage of white car
nation^.
Mrs, Calvin Henson, sinster-in
law of the groom, was matron of
honor. She wore a dress of navy
blue with navy accessories and
a corsage of red roses.
Calvin Henson served as his
brother's best man.
Immediately following the cere
mony the couple left for a short
wedding trip.
The bride is a graduate of
Franklin High School and at
tended Western Carolina Teach
ers College. For the past seven
years she has been employed by
Nantahala Power and Light Com
pany in Franklin.
The groom is a graduate of
Franklin High School and is en
gaged in dairy farming.

Ellington, of Canton, Ohio, and
George William Ledbetter, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Homer Ledbetter, ;
of East Canton, Ohio, formerly of
Franklin, were married Saturday,
June 30. at the Pentecostal Temple
in Canton.
The Rev. John Adkins perform
ed the ceremony. Miss Lavonne
Lewis, pianist, and Miss Yvonne
Perry Vocalist, presented a pro
gram of wedding music.
The bride, given In marriage
by her father, wore a floor-length
gown of white satin with two
layers of lace. It was fashioned
with a scalloped neck and full
length sleeves. Her finger-tip veil
was attached to a crown of seed
pearls. She carried a white Bible
topped with a bouquet of red
roses.
Miss Delores Ellington was her
sister's maid of honor. She wore
a ballerina-length net dress with
ruffled shoulder straps. She car
ried a bouquet of yellow carna
tions.
Miss Bonnie Ellington, sister of
the bride, was candle-bearer. She
wore a ballerina-length blue net
dress.
Denton Brammer served as best
man.
The bride's mother wore a white
nylon dress. Her corsage was of
pink carnations. The groom's
mother wore a yellow nylon dress
and her corsage was of pink carna
tions.

of the bride's parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Ledbetter left for a honey
moon trip to Michigan and
Canada. Upon their return, they
will live at 1310 Nevarre Rd., S.
W? Canton.
Mrs. Ledbetter is a graduate of
Timken High School, Canton, and
Mr. Ledbetter is a graduate of East
Canton High School. He is empoy
ed at Luxaire Cushion Company,
Canton.

ter of Mr. and Mrs. John Milton
Archer, Jr., of Franklin, became
the bride of Charles Thomas Mc
Laughlin, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Edwin McLaughlin, of Cold Spring
Harbor, N. Y., Saturday afternoon
in a candlelight ceremony at the
Franklin Methodist Church.
The Rev. Charles E. Parker, pas
tor of the First Baptist Church,
of New Bern, and former pastor
of the First Baptist Church of
Franklin, performed the double
ring ceremony. A program of tra
ditional wedding music was pre
sented by Mrs. Henry W. Cabe,
organist.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a waltz-length
gown of Swiss embroidered or
gandy. The Sabrina neckline,
which dipped to a "V" in the
back, and the hemline were scal
loped. The dress was fashioned
with short sleeves and a bouffant
skirt, which was gathered on a
long torso waistline. She wore a
tucked organdy cap with a waist
length veil, and her only jewelry
was a single strand of pearls, a
gift of the groom. She carried
a bouquet of stephanotis centered
with an orchid.
Miss Sara Elizabeth Parker, of
New Bern and Arlington, Va? was
maid of honor, and Miss Mary Ann
Killian, of Franklin, was the only
bridesmaid. They wore waltz-length
! gowns of canary yellow organdy,
fashioned with pleated berthas

ception was held at the Slagie
Memorial Building. Mrs. Roy
Biddle, Jr.. Mrs. Robert Moore,
Mrs. Hall Callahan. Jr., and Mrs.
Gene Huscusson, all of Franklin,
and Mrs. James L. Green, of
Burlington, assisted in serving.
Following the reception the
couple left for a wedding trip
along the North Carolina coast.
For traveling, the bride wore a
pink sheath dress with pink and
white duster lined in the material
of the dress, white accessories,
and the orchid from her bridal
bouquet.
The couple will reside temp
orarily in Washington, D C., until
they depart for Germany, where
the groom has a two years' over
seas assignment.
Mrs. McLaughlin was graduated
from Franklin High School, at
tended Meredith College. Raleigh,
and was graduated from Wake
Forest College. Wake Forest. She
is currently employed by the U. S.
(Defense Department in Washing
ton.
Mr. MCLaugniin was graduated
from Forty High School In Fo.rtv
Fort, Fa., and attend Bloomsburg
State Teachers' College in Blooms
burg, Pa. He served three years
in the U.S. Army and is pres
ently employed by the Defense De
partment in Washington.

wedding rehearsal the parents of
the bride entertained with a din
ner at Trimont Inn for the wed
ding party and members of the
immediate families. Twenty were i
present.

at a bridge party Tuesday even- j
ing, July 3, at the latter's home J
on West Main Street, as a cour- i
tesy to Miss Archer.

ture bouquets of sweetpeas and
baby's breath were on the bridge
tables.

first progression.
The honoree was presented a

at a "Coke" party, given on her
lawn Tuesday morning. July 10.

On Monday afternoon. July 9.
Mrs. Hall Callahan and Mrs. Gene
Huscusson gave a trousseau shower
at Mrs. Callahan's home, honor
ing Miss Archer. The guestlist in

Of MACON WOMEN
PEACH CPSIDE DOWN CAKE
'?4 cup butter
'2 cup firmly packed brown
sugar
1' ; cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
'2 teaspoon salt
a,4 cup granulated sugar
?4 cup butter or other shorten
ing at room temperature
1 egg
' 2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
peach halves
Mix first two ingredients. Place
in pan. Arrange fresh or canned
peach halves on sugar mixture.
Blanched almonds or pecan halves
may be used with fruit. Sprinkle
moist shredded cocoanut over the
fruit. Cover with batter mixed
from other ingredients and bake
in oven 350? F until brown.
