Annie Ledford lOlive Hill-Oak Dale) Swaffords Sayin's You may have the mistaken idea that your 'ole country groceryman has an easy time. Maybe you think that he just sits around and waits for an occasional customer to drop in Well, just come in some morn ing. say 6:30. and stay with me until 7:00 p. m. or later, and then say ? Well I think you would say ? "Go home. Paul, and don't do a thing or go any where ? just eat your supper and go to bed and rest for you have done enough for one day." I close the store every Thursday p. m. ? Well ? just to rest and get a little outside recreation. J mean that I plan it that way, but you know how it is ? There is always some thing happens to hinder. A few days ago I put my rod and reel in the car ? had everything I needed 'except same red worms' to take off and go fish ing. when I closed at noon. Just as soon as I could eat my lunch and put on some older clothes I told Elizabeth 'my wife' that I had better scatter some barn yard fertilizer that was, piled up behind the barn ? knew it wouldn't take long ? and also knew that there is where plenty of redworms live. I hustled me an old tin can and with my pitchfork began digging worms .and ocrassionally throwing a forkfull of manure over the ground' I soon had plenty of big redworms ? Everything was going my way ? I could just feel those big fish ? jump ing at the end of my line ? when all of a sudden ? I heard Elizabeth say. (right behind me i "Don't you guess we had better work some in the garden when you get thju' there?" Be fore I could think of an excuse ? she was on her way ? car rying a hoe. Dazed I stood there a few minutes and 'you guess ed it' regretfully took my toe and turned that precious tin can over ? stood there and watched the last one of those worms go home. ? I couldn't go fishing. There was work to do. Speakin' of work ? I gotta get busy. Here comes a truck load of stuff I'll have to put some where. P S. ? I just thought of one to tell you ? but you'll have to wait till next week. Paul Swafford Bryson City road. IV2 miles from city limits THERE IS A TRICK TO IT!
