GEORGE BYRD I Community Reporter I 11>e Cowee Community Develop ment Organization discussed and acted on a number of projects at its monthly meeting Thursday night of last week. Fred McCaha was put in charge of seeding the banks at the school grounds. It was decided to set more shrubbery on the grounds in February or March. The presi dent asked anyone having shrubs they would like to contribute to see him. Ed Brodgen was asked to see Clark Walker, assistant agent, concerning a 4-H forestry project on the school wood land. Following a discussion of the need of a small shed to cover the pump at the picnic area, the presi dent, Bill Raby, named Lyle Raby to see that the shed is built. Reports on religious activities were made from Cowee Baptist Church and Snow Hill Methodist Church. Christmas programs were given at all three churches In the community. The Baptist Church reported it has purchased a type writer and a mimeograph ma chine. Bible study is being held each Wednesday night. Snow Hill church reported it had presented Christmas gifts to the family of the pastor, the Rev. Paul Heafner, the Sunday school superintendent, John Hurst, the church secretary treasurer Leo Hurst, and the re tiring youth counselor, Mrs. C. N. West. Miss Josephine Roper had charge of a spelling match, in which the ladies' side proved best spellers. Mrs. Fred McOaha re mained standing longest. President Raby presided, and Miss Roper conducted the de votional. Driver Charged, Following Wreck Here Sunday .Night Howard Mitchel Henry, of Franklin, Route 5, was charged with following another vehicle too. closely Sunday night after his 1952 Chevrolet skidded 79 feet on Palmer Street's wet pavement and crashed Into the rear of an auto driven by Rich ard Mashburn, of Franklin. State Highway Patrolman H. T. Ferguson, who with Franklin Police Chief C. D. Baird inves tigated the accident, said total damage to the two cars was about $200. No one was Injured, the patrolman said. From the skid marks. Patrol man Ferguson estimated Mr. Henry was traveling about 35 miles an hour In the 20 m.p.h. zone. Mr. Mashburn was prepar ing to turn into a driveway at the foot of East Palmer Street hill when his car was hit.
