his home. Franklin. Route v2.
Mr. Long was born Sept. 20.
1882. in Macon County, the son of
the late William Thomas and Mrs.
Sarah Justice Long. Jan. 9. 1908.
he married Miss Cora Talley. of
this county, who survives.
Mr. Long was a farmer. A mem
ber of Tesenta Baptist Church,
he served his church as a deacon
for a number of years.
Funeral services were held Sat
urday at 2 p. m. at Dryman's
Chapel. Burial was in chapel
cemetery. The Rev. John Beatty,
the Rev. Lee Crawford, and the
Rev. William Shope conducted the
services.
Nephews served as pallbearers.
They were John Brown. Lyman
Ballew. Hayes Buchanan. James
Buchanan, Neville Buchanan, and
R. L. Long.
Surviving Mr. Long, besides his
wife, are four sons. Doyle, of
Dillard, Oa., Route 1, Billy C.. of
Cocoa, Fla., Denver Long, of Co
lumbus. Ohio, and Lewis, of Frank
lin. Route 2: a daughter, Mrs.
Blanche Vinson, of Franklin.
Route 2; and nine grandchildren.

Depot in Prance, according to an
announcement from the Army
Home Town News Center.
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin R.'
Vanhook. of Franklin, Route 2, he
entered the U. S. Army in April.
1954. and took his basic training

Morgan Retiring
As President Of
Mountain Council
The Rev. A. Rufus Morgan is
in Qatlinburg. Tenn.. this week
attending a meeting of the Council
of Southern Mountains, of which
he is the retiring president.
The meeting began yesterday
(Wednesday) and will end Satyr
day. Mr. Morgan has served as
president for two years. New offi
cers will be installed at the meet
ing.
The Council concentrates on
programs of education and im
provement for the Southern moun
tains. Its members are composed
of representatives of organizations
which work with people of the
mountain areas.
Names Make The Man
The young Indian stood before
the judge and reaffirmed his de
sire to have his name changed.
"What Is your name now?" the
judge asked.
"Shrieking Loud Train Whistle,"
the Indian replied.
"And what do you wish your
new name to be?"
"Toot," the Indian said.
Tates Buy
Potts House
HIGHLANDS. ? Potts House
changed hands here last week in
property transfers between Mr.
and Mrs. C. C. Potts and Mr. and
Mrs. J. Phil Tate.
The Potts sold three lots on
Main Street, including Potts
House and the annex, to the Tates.
Federal tax stamps on the deed
indicated $25,000 was paid in cash
and a balance of $4,500 is owed.
To Mrs. Potts, the Tates sold
three tracts of land in Highlands
township. Indicated purchase price
was $17,500.

Cobb* Leaving Soon
For Richmond, Va.
HIGHLANDS ? Mr. and Mrs
Wilton H. Cobb, residents here
for SO years, will leave about
March 1 for Richmond. Va.
The Cobbe expect to be in Rich
mond for two or three years and
then return to Highlands. They
are keeping their Highlands home
and the building in which Mr.
Cobb has conducted a hardware
business since 1932. He sold his in
ventory to Steve Potts.
At Richmond. Mr. Cobb will
work with his brother. B. C. Cobb,
on a large construction Job. On its
completion, the Cobbs plan to re
turn to Highlands.
Mr. Cobb has been active in
the Highlands community and
served as mayor of the town for
12 years.
