Reeves Hardware Company Firemen Called To Grass Fire On Memorial Hill The Franklin Volunteer Fire De partment answered a 1 p. m call Friday and put out a grass fire which threatened the Roy M Bid die residence on Slagle Memorial MB. Firemen said the fire apparent ly spread from a metal incinera tor barrel, located on a slope be side the Biddle home. Mrs. Biddle said she .never used the incinerator and did not know why there was a fire in it. Away at the time of the alarm, she said she had not been home all morn ing. MORGAN, MACON1AN Had Worked 20 Years In Pa.; Rites Monday Ralph McKinley Morgan, 54, died at his home in the Oak Grove community at 9:30 a. m. Saturday. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Mr. Morgan had been in ill health for several months. He was born in the Tellico sec tion, the son of the late Joseph and Mrs. Lillie Owenby Morgan. He married Miss Billie Trout, of Oklahoma, Feb. 8, 1940. He worked in the coal mines at Hazelton, Pa., for 20 years and re turned to Macon County four years ago to farm. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p. m. at Tellico Bap tist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. C. C. Welch and the Rev. Theron Slagle officiated. Pallbearers were Howell Welch, Floyd and Arlen Bradley. Hoke Meadows, Claude Welch, and Billy Meadows. Surviving ;n addition to his wife are a son, Robert, of the home; two brothers, Carl, of Franklin, and Clyde, of Pontiac, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Austin Welch, of Franklin, Route 3; three half brothers, Jud, of Brevard, and Jim and A. W? of Portland, Ore.; and four half sisters, Mrs. Ethel Meadows, of Franklin, Route 3, Mrs. Nora Woodard, of Walla Wal la. Wash., Mrs. Betty Kenyon, of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Laura Ramsey, of Philadelphia, Pa. Cartoogechaye School Getting New Curtains Cartoogechaye P.-T. A. has ap proved purchase of new stage curtains for the school and they are expected to be installed in side of a month. Plans also are being made by the P.-T. A. for holding a benefit sup per on March 9 at the school for the curtain fund. The public is invited and serving will begin at 6:30 p. m. At its regular meeting Feb. 19, the group also celebrated the 60th anniversary of P.-T. A. Mrs. J. M. Maddox. vice-president, who pre sided, presented an anniversary cake to Mrs. Fleta M. Blaine's first grade, which won the room count for the most parents present. Clark Walker, assistant county agent, showed a film on organ izing a community 4-H club and he urged all parents to help their children with this work. Thursday: Sandtown club at the home of Mrs. Bryan Setser at 1:30 p. m. Harper Assigned To Aircraft Carrier William I>. Harper, Jr.. aero grapher striker in the U. S. Navy, has been assigned to duty aboard the USS Tarawa, an anti-subma rine aircraft carrier. Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Har per, of the Goldmine section, he attended aviation preparatory school at Norman, Okla., and then attended aerographer mates' school at Lakehurst, N. J.
