Sloan, and family ir. Vienna, and while away attendee. the sessions of the Rotary Inter national convention at Lake Lu cerne, Switzerland. At Lake Lu cerne, he pointed out. he stayed at a hotel some 1,500 leet above thi lake and town, reached by an in clined railway. He crossed the Atlantic b;, plane, leaving New York about ^ o'clock one afternoon and havin breakfast the next morning at .. place in northern . Scotland. The llight across the ocean was made at an altitude of about 22,000 feet. In flying over Europe, and latei 011 motor trips, he was impressec by the pattern of the farms. Each inch of ground is used, he said either as forest or for growin; crops. He told how the palaces of the former emperors of Austria-Hun gary are used for the public; tht winter palace is an art museum, the grounds of the summer palace are a huge park. The famed Vienna Woods, a foi jested.area near Vienna, is city owned, and used both for tlv | growing of timber and as a park The Viennese flock there on week j ends and holidays, he said, many on bicycles, some on foot. He esti mated that three times as many in Europe travel by bicycle as by automobile. His greatest disappointment 011 the trip, he said, was the Idlewild Airport in New York. He had ex pected something beautiful and elaborate, but found that the only buildings completed are tempor ary wooden structures. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Reece and two children, of Madison Heights.
