Franklin's two hosiery plants. .
Franklin Hosiery Company and
the Van Raalte Company, obser
ved vacation periods this month
with Van Raalte closed an extra
two weeks because of over pro
duction.
Franklin Hosiery, a plant of
Burling ton Industries, took the
week of July 4, although some
departments worked part of the
week "to meet the schedule of
goods shipments," according to

employes, will resume operations
Monday after being closed since
June 28. The employes were laid
off for two weeks and paid for
the other week. They receive a
second week of paid vacation at
Christmas.
Norman Blaine. Van Raalte's
superintendent here, said over
production necessitated the extra
two-week shutdown.

Thirty-one were present for the
July 2 meeting of the Patton
Rural Community Development
Organization at the community
building.
Fred Hannah, vice-president,
presided.
Richard Bingham and Mrs.
Harley Stewart were appointed to I
see that the community sign i?
moved from its old site on the i
old Georgia highway to the new
highway.
They also were named to take ;
donations to purchase a new cow
for Ed Scroggs, a resident of the
community whose cow. died re
cently.
It was decided that the beauti
fication committee would look,
after the leveling and resoding
of the Patton Cemetery.
Entertainment at the meeting
was furnished by Carol Smith
and the Carolina Playboys.
The spring pig crop is expected
to be down 2 per cent from last
spring.
