Franklin Mail Is Stolen At Dillard Break-In Franklin residents have been letting personal mail delivery by he Dillard, Ga? postmaster (or he last week because of a postal obbery there the night of July 19. A stack of letters was taken rom the post office and rifled as he robbers apparently searched or money. Part of the letters fere later recovered in woods tear Dillard. No arrests have been lade in connection with the theft. Postmaster C. E. Dillard said he ,as making the delivers' of the ecovered letters personally to ave the time of writing individual etters of explanation. Costs Compared For Filter Plants At the Franklin Board of Alder men's request, the Harwood-Beebe engineering firm has supplied fig ures for the cost of a filter plant at various capacities less than the one the company suggested for Franklin. Regardless of the size plant, there would be fiXed costs (rough ly) of $22,000 for an intake sys tem, 1'2 cents a thousand gallons for chemicals, a main from the pumping station to the filter plant, $3,400, and a connection from the filter plant to the town's mains. $10,000. Practices Search Mission The Franklin squadron of the Civil Air Patrol flew a practice search and rescue mission <SAR CAPi Sunday afternoon with five planes taking part. ' A dummy plane, laid out with aluminum foil, was hidden on ground near the Moody Farm. Search members were told a plane was down but it was their job to j discover it. Operation officer was A. C. Mitchell Plane Crash Search Seven adult members and six cadets of the Franklin Civil Air Patrol took part In the search and rescue mission Thursday morning of last week for a pri vate plane that crashed In the Mt. Mitchell area. The plane was found in mid morning by a Marion C-A.P. mem ber. Pilots from Franklin never actually saw the wreckage be cause visibility on the south side of the mountain was too poor to permit flying in the area. The aircraft hit Mt. Mitchell, at about 4.500 feet up its 6,684-foot eleva- [ tion. ' However, the cadets wer#- pari of the ground rescue mission which went into the woods and brought out the plane's occupants, three members of a Cleveland. Picnic, Give Children Truck Ride The Franklin Volunteer Fire Department held its annual pic nic behind the town hall Thurs day night of last week with 80 people attending. Twenty firemen and their fam ilies were present. A feature of the picnic was a ride on the fire truck for each of the children. The food was served by Ed Coates.
