Brady's BLARNEY By A Brady Called J. P. A Franklin part-time resident, J. W. Gustaw, at intervals sends me clips about a variety of things. Several months back he mail ed a clip from a northern news paper of an outhouse with all the comforts ? to wit, a TV an- : tenna. This week from Mr. Gustaw'sl home in Woodside, New Jersey, ! arrived a clip from the Long Island Press telling how a live- I wire civic club put a new sales gimmick into Its membership by leaving a live burro with an old member, who had to board the animal until he signed up a new member. Only then could he pass the burro on to some one else. My thanks to .Mr. Gustaw for his continued interest in this column. jpb On my recent trip to New j I Be sure to visit the S&H Green Stamp trailer in Franklin September 3, 4, 5. ( Here you can see thousands of the wonderful items you can earn by sav- ! ing S&H Green Stamps. You get Green Stamps when you trade \ with the following merchants: 1 i " 1 1 People's Department Store i _ i City Dry Cleaners I Shook' s Service Station < Franklin Laundry and Dry Cleaners 1 Nantahala Oil Company (On fuel oil and kerosene for home use only) Jamison 5 & 10c Store Rickman's Tire and Recapping Dixie Home Store York City (I'll quit talking about it before long, If you'll just stay with met I kept en* countering people who would attempt to mimic my mountain accent, much to the delight of others. Invariably, they'd keep using "you-all" this and ?you-all" that, without regard to correct usage So. for their benefit, I'm pass ing only this little poem, which was passed on this way by Don Smith. Come all you from other parts, Both city folks and rural. And listen while I tell you this: The word "You-all" is plural. When we say "you-air must come down. Or "we-all" shall be lonely. We mean a dozen folks, perhaps. And not one person only. If I should say to Hiram Jones, For instance. "You-all's lazy"; Or, "Will you-all lend .me vour knife " He'd think that I was crack. Now, if you'd be more sociable And with us often mingle. You'd find that on the native tongue "You-all" is never single. Don't think I mean to criticize. Or act as if I knew all; But ? when we speak of one alone, We-all say "you," like you-all. jpb People make this newspaper ?ame a fascinating profession. In fact, I can't think of any Dther reason for my being in the racket. I enjoy people (yes. even those who chew me out like a top sergeant* regardless of their : attitudes or the circumstances j under which we meet. It's an education for me. Occasionally, while t working j an a story, I come across some people who really make my job worth having ? and there aren't : many who would want it. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bennett, who celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary last week, make me want to stay on the forever. Although I was a stranger to :hem, they made jne feel per- 1 Fectly at ease while I talked with them about their years of married life. Probbably it was the keen sense of humor both display; something, incidentally, that seisms to be characteristic of the older generation in Macon County. They were friendly without being overly so. I felt like I'd known them for years. I took the routine picture of the 50-year cake cutting, which appeared in last week's Press. But the best picture of the Bennetts failed to get in print ancf ? w r ^ # Infants' and Giirli COATS The Children's Shop Small and Large Boys' JACKETS SHORTY MASON'S Week - End Specials FEEDS AT MONEY SAVING PRICES Phone 772 100 LBS.
