VOICE DEEP ? A writer re
cently said of women that their
"beauty is only voice deep". Now,
what does he say is wrong with
our voices? This is what our critic
?,ays:
"American women are surely
among the most attractive in the
world. They spend billions of dol
lars to be w;'U groomed ? clothes
and beauty preparations, etc., and
yet stubbornly ignore what should
be the prime asset ? the VOICE."
"The report makers and spcech
makers offend by their rasping,
screeching, whining voices," our
friend writer says.

Q. Is it true that heavy prun- *
lag can cut peach yield? 1
A. Yes. Recent agricultural ex
periments have shown that peach
trees that were pruned lest out- 1
yielded the heavily pruned trees 1
by 39 per cent. Individual peaches 1
were larger on trees pruned more 1
severely, but there were more
peaches on those less severely
pruned.
Q. What response do peach
trees give to nitrogen applica- 1
tlons?
A. In recent tests, rates of 0.3.
0.6. 0.9, and 1.2 pounds of nitro
gen per tree were used. Yieids in
creased as more nitrogen was ad
ded ? up through the 0.9 pound
per tree rate. There was a rela
tionship between pruning and ad
ded nitrogen. The heavily pruned
trees showed the least response to
nitrogen. The amount of added
nitrogen used did not affect the
size of the individual peaches.

publish the results of its findings
in flue-cured tobacco tests. These
findings may be used as a guide .
in selecting the "highest yielding,
highest paying, most acceptable
varieties. All a producer of tobac
co seed need do to have his variety
recorded for legal sale Is to prove
that it is a distinct variety, dif
ferent fiom all other varieties.
Livestock producers should have
a more favorable price ratio of
feed to animal next year.
North Carolina corn growers
should be able to get a higher
price for their corn this year.
