They are also spending some time with Mr. Moore's paretns, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Moore, of the Bethel community, and Mrs. Moore's par ents. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Higdon. of the Higdonville community. Linda and Martha Blaine are attending 4-H camp at Camp Schaub. near Waynesville, this weeki Mr. and Mrs. Gene Cocke, of Centersville. Ala., will arrive this week to spend the Fourth with Mrs. Cocke's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hannah. A family picnic was held by the Henry Mashburn family at Soco Gap last Sunday. Those attend ing were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mashburn and son, Wayne, Mr. arid Mrs. Gene Mashburn and son, Steve, and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Burnette, Mrs. Betty Fairchild and son. Micky, and Miss Susie Mash burn. of Asheville. Miss Nancy Cochran has re turned home after a week's visit with her sister, Miss Carolyn Cochran, in Washington, D. C. She also spent a week with an other sister, Mrs. Douglas Horton, and Mr. Horton in Charlotte. Kelly Jenkins attended the fun eral of his brother. Will Jenkins, in Bryson City Tuesday. Items Of Interest From Cowee Community Miss Cecile Gibson Staff Correspondent The regular meeting of CoWee Community Development Organi zation will be held tonight < Thurs day) at the picnic area. No. not a picnic? just the regular meeting The home demonstration club "Picture Frame Workshop" was held at the home of Mrs. C. C Welch last Friday, instead of at the school lunchroom as schedul ed. A group of 10 cleaned and re finished a number of picture frames and enjoyed a picnic lunch. Homecoming Homecoming will be at Snow Hill Methodist Church Sunday, July 6. Worship services will be at 11. and a covered dish lunch will be served at noon. Everyone is cordially invited to attend. Several members of the Snow Hill Methodist Church attended a charge-wide fellowship supper, for the North Macon Circuit, at the Carson Community Building Mon day night. Following the supper, a business session was held and plans for the coming year were discussed. North Macon Circuit is comprised of Carson Chapel, Iotla, Snow Hill, and Riverview Churches, and the Rev. L. Paul Heafner is pastor. The Rev. Bill Sorrells, pastor of East Sylva Baptist Church, was guest speaker at Liberty Baptist Church last Sunday night. Cullowhee Mrs. Hallie Bass, Maconian, Dies In Asheville I Mrs. Hallie Porter Bass, a na tive of Franklin, died in an Ashe ville hospital last Thursday mom ing. She was 79. She was a half-sister of J. D. <De> Porter, and a first cousin of T. W. Porter, both of Franklin. The only other survivors are a nephew. N. W. C. Oennett, and a brother-in-law. Nathaniel Gennett. both of Asheville. Mrs. Bass's two sons by her first marriage, to Reid Crawford, are dead. The widow of John F. Bass, she had lived in Asheville foi; many years, having moved there from Waynesville. Earlier, she had made her home in Atlanta. Born and reared in Franklin, she spent much of her early married life here. The daughter of Robert L. (Bob) Porter and Mrs. Mary Frances Cunningham Porter, she was born Dec. 3, 1878. She was graduated from Salem Academy and Salem College, in Winston-Salem, and later taught Latin In the academy for a number of years. During World War I, she took nurse training and became a registered nurse, and for many years speci alized in the care of psychiatric cases. She was a constant reader and an enthusiast of the arts. Services were conducted last Friday afternoon at an Asheville funeral home by the Rev.
