ed to Hunter Library at Western
Carolina College by the Carnegie
Corporation of New York for use
in the purchase of color slides
depicting American arts, it has
been announced by Mrs. Lilian
Buchanan, librarian.
Mrs. Buchanan said the col

The Carnegie gifts came as the
culmination of a two-year survey
of the visual arts of the United

ranging from painting to archi

special feature is a collection of
varied arts of the Indians from
New Mexico to Alaska. A main
purpose of the project was to pro

also in those dealing with Ameri

Institutions receiving Jhe sets are
expected to keep detailed records
of the use of the experimental
sets.
Mrs. Buchanan explained that

It is expected that this gift will

program at Western Carolina.
Every freshman is required to
take a course in art history and
appreciation. &nd will have op
portunity for further study of the,
slides as they advance into other
courses.
